Need to re-order test strips from QAS!

It would almost impossible for my husband to try and get time off from work every 6 week INR check. I am a little worried about ordering his test strips now, it would take about a week worth of phone calls back and forth between the insurance co & QAS to get the proper paperwork and coding...

    Dayquil and Coumadin?

I always thought that Amoxicillin was contraindicated with coumadin use, but when I checked in reference mannual there was nothing listed. I also thought Sudafed was prefered over things like Dayquil, does anyone have first hand experience? Hubby has one heck of plugged ear and 48 hours of...

my other son has swine flu

Is Brian wearing a mask? Alot of people will say don't bother to wear a mask, but I have often thought that wearing a mask around the nose and mouth will prevent a person from actually touching their face, serve as a reminder so-to-speak. I work in the OR, and when my mask is on--I am highly...

what is proper inr range for avr?

Hello! You may want to consider verifying once more with your cardiologist what your INR range should be. My husband started out with an INR range 2.5 - 3.5. At his 2 year post op check up, it was changed to 2.0 - 3.0 in view of his heart improvement and the generation valve that was used...

Hi I just wanted to add that my husband's 3 month post-op echo/visit was abysmal. Also having cardiomyopathy (left ventricle hypertrophy) EF had dropped to 35%, I can't recall the other specs, but they are available in my archieve posts. We were also told to that this can happen as the...

    Possible cause of endocarditis?

Yes, very interesting! My husband is post endocarditis 2005 from strep viridans (mouth bacteria). We were told that he would have an increased risk of contracting the disease again, having had it once. He burnt his mouth at a BBQ 2 weekends ago, and I was obsessed over this burn. I...

I just stopped by looking around for Al's link....Nathan is coming down with my awful cold and for whatever reason (placebo or true) Airborne appears to stop colds in there tracks for me. I tried Zicam (sp?) this time...no such luck  Was hoping Nathan could use my Airborne....now see...

    Endocarditis, TEE question

My husbands follow up post-endocarditis treatment TEE did not reveal any abnormalities (and his serum cultures post tx were also negative) and he went ahead with his AVR. When the surgeon came to speak with me after his surgery, he informed me that there were still vegatations (whether they...

My husband's INR range is also 2.0-3.0 with his type of Carbomedics valve. It was initially 2.5-3.5 but was reduced last year with his improved heart functions. He also takes EC Aspirin every other day.

Hello I am speaking for my husband who had AVR with a mechanical in 2005 and passed a 3rd class airman (yes, anticoagulated!) medical I believe in 2006 sometime. He had to jump through many hoops and the paperwork was incredible. Please check back in the archieves under my name for posts...
