Mike,

Best wishes for a successful surgery and an easy, uncomplicated recovery!
You and Alerion will soon have stories to swap concerning valve replacement along with your sailing adventures.:)

God Bless and Godspeed!

Wishing you all the best for your surgery and recovery. I am 7 weeks out of surgery and feel pretty darn good -- hope it will be the same for you,

You are in my prayers! I hope you can enjoy the weekend!! Looking forward to your posts after you are fixed up!!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I was told this afternoon that my surgery time was moved up to 7:30 am instead of the original 2:30 pm. I had initially thought that I didnt have any choice about having a cath before surgery and requested it right before the AVR but thanks to the knowledge gained thru the forum and the internet, I requested to go with the cardiac CT scan instead. The good folks at the hospital granted my wish I had to have that CT done a week before the AVR due to the larger ammount of contrast dye used. They did suggested that " I may still need the cath" but either the images were good or they finally understood that I was NOT going to agree to a cath no matter what! I just had a bad gut feeling about that procedure and was not going to agree to it. I really believe that a non invasive procedure that costs 1/2 as much should be made more available to people. Studies done proved about 92% accuracy between the two tests. I will keep you all posted on my results, Thanks again!

I know that you are all ready to go with this and that you have done your homework! You are going to get the best care around! Looking forward to hearing from your family as to how great you did. I will be thinking of you and your family on monday.

Hey Lil teach
the cath is nothing. I spoke to Mike and he's against it on principle, but trust me - i had one right before my AVR and i fell asleep during the procedure. They doped me up pretty good (you can request that they do this if you're nervous) but it didn't really kick in til after it was all over so my wife had to watch me sleep off the effects for 3 hours! There is a very brief moment of mild pain when they finish but other than that, it's NOTHING. I'm not a stoic, hard-ass macho type guy and i found it to be easy. You'll be fine.

Good luck

David

ps Mike, have fun!!
I'll see you when you get back to Dartmouth.
