When I went for my "check up" at the end of last year, I had an echo. The tech was the same guy that did the last one(2006?). I told him I was concerned about my valve (recalled) and mentioned I'd been told I had MVP after my surgery. He seemed surprised, and then proceeded to check out all my valves. He gave me a play by play as he went. He said my mitral valve looked fine, and that I didn't have any prolapse he could detect! Seems weird, but he has been doing echos a long time, and I trust him. Anyway tonight I remembered this, and deleted MVP from my signature. Makes me wonder...

Hey Brian sounds like fantastic news. I can see why you are confused but all in all is good news, wishing you many years of good health. Take care.

Brian,
how nice to be able to reduce your signature that way!
It sounds like you're doing really well.

I went around for years thinking I had MVP rather than an aortic murmur. When I got the correct diagnosis, I decided MVP was the fad diagnosis of the 80's, and wondered if improvements in imaging was a factor. Just recently though, I read that one problem with bicuspid valves is that they can sound like MVP, causing wrong diagnosis.

The other side effect of having the left side of your heart fixed up with a new valve is that the blood volume and pressure inside the left ventricle decreases and your mitral valve can function properly without leaking. The muscle walls of and between the ventricle and atrium can grow in thickness which might compromise the function of the mitral valve as well so with the remodelling of your heart muscle comes a healthier MV.

Congrats on your healing. I am staying positive that even with future monitoring, the MVP can stay off your signature here.

Take Heart,
Pamela.

You all have such sweet hearts. Thanks! It is nice to get good news. Reading your replies certainly makes me happy to have shared it!

Great news Brian. Hope you get to keep your B-S valve for a very long time.

Gina, Had to laugh at "B-S"! They say it's in great shape. Yahoo! Kind of like the last quote in your signature. Sure am happy about that!

Hey, Brian. It's enough to drive a person nuts, isn't it? Varying reports, differently interpreted numbers. Wish we could ALL have your guy!! :D Hang onto him!

I'm glad that you changed your signature. Walking with optimism and confidence is always conducive to happier, more peaceful days.

Great news!

Marguerite

Yeah - I was chuckling when I wrote it. As you know, I have such mixed feelings about my dealings with Bjork-Shiley and the whole lawsuit thing. I think their initials are somewhat revealing. ;):D

Brian, my valve brother,
