My surgeon has emailed me, in a far too casual manner, like I'm having my hair done or something, that he can fit me in next thursday ! It's of course not a cut and blow dry though, it's open heart surgery ! Just a job to him though I guess ?
I was told the next few months and that was shocking enough, but next week !? Wow...
I dont know what sort of size Aortic valve others have on here, pre op, I'd be interested to find out though. Mine is, or was a couple of weeks ago 0.5cm2 which I think is pretty tight ?
The operation is dependent on the results of my Angiogram this friday and whether or not I need a ct scan or not ?

Best wishes to you with the angiogram on Friday and please let us know when the date is definite, so we can "fit you in" on the calendar!

Go for it! My wait was only about 4 weeks, but it was meant to be less than that originally, the last couple of weeks waiting weren't very nice, get it over with, and youll be recovered before you were even meant to have it :)

Yup .5cm is not a good place to be at.
I met my surgeon in April 2005, then I met him again in late September and
he had me come right back the next day for the angio....12 days later I was in OHS.
I think I was at .8 with lots of symptoms. New valve is 21mm.

.5cm is pretty small. Critical (so I've been told) is anything less than 1cm. I was about .9cm when I had surgery. I was having symptoms pretty regularly also when I exerted myself. I think you will be better off getting it knocked out next week rather than waiting. I was 15 days from diagnosis to surgery. I could have waited a few more weeks according to the surgeon but I was so freaked out knowing I has some kind of crazy heart condition I wanted it fixed ASAP.

You will be back on your feet in no time, first few days aren't all that pleasant but thats what drugs are for ! Beyond that you putter around the house for a few weeks, sleep alot, and the next thing you know your stir crazy and ready to get back to living.

Go for it! Because if you refuse this date then you might be waiting for who knows how long before he can fit you in....and once it's done then you can get on with your life.
Christmas this year - not much fun for you (you probably won't feel much like celebrating)
New Year - new life!

Good luck
Bridgette:)

Waiting is always the WORST part of any surgery. So the less you have to wait, the better, in my opinion. I'm with everyone else... Go for it! You'll be feeling better in no time!
