Jeff and Carla

Hello all,

Jeff and I have really appreciated being able to access all the information on this forum. So much of it has been so helpful in preparation for Jeff's upcoming surgery scheduled for this Wednesday, the 22nd. He is having an aortic valve replacement and has chosen to go with the On-X valve. He is having his surgery performed by Dr. Charles Anderson in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma General Hospital. He will be taking part in the PROACT trial and feels very fortunate to have this opportunity. We are both anxious about everything but are trying to concentrate on the positive aspects of life after surgery, and life itself. What a precious gift!

Jeff has a congenitally defective bicuspid valve with severe stenosis and AVA of 0.9 cm2. His angiogram showed he does not need a bypass at this time. He has a history of hypercholesterolemia and takes Vytorin, low dose aspirin and drinks an apple cider vinegar and honey cocktail 3 x a day. Other than the heart problem, he is in excellent health. He is 58 years old and has always been very active. He retired this year from QWEST after 31 years as a network technician.

We are so happy to be a part of this group and look forward to hearing from you. Any tips or information you would like to share directly with us would be so appreciated. Please say a prayer for Jeff as he goes in to surgery this Wednesday!

Thanks!

Jeff and Carla :)

Welcome, Jeff and Carla. I will put Jeff on our calendar - that's the last step to making it "official". If you haven't already, check out the sticky thread on what to take to the hospital and also one on preparing for homecoming.

We are overwhelmed with all your support and encouragement. It means so much to us to know you are there for us and know what we are going through. Thank you all! Jeff and Carla

Welcome and best wishes to you both that Jeff have a successful surgery Wednesday and uneventful, easy recovery. The waiting really is the hardest part and most of us know exactly what you are thinking and feeling right now.

You've made the hard choices, you have picked the surgeon and hospital, which valve.... now is the time to try and focus on how wonderful it will be when the surgery is behind you and he is feeling better and better.

Please let us help you with any questions and let us know how he is doing.

welcome to VR.

there is one thread you might like to visit. It's 'what to take to the hospital'; a checklist and suggestions.

Wishing all the best on Wednesday for an uneventful and speedy recovery. GODSPEED!

Welcome to VR ~ My best wishes and prayers will be with you both on Wednesday.

Welcome Jeff and best of luck to you. I also had a AVR with an On-X due to a bicuspid valve. Give it a few months and your not only going to feel good as new, your probably gonna feel a whole lot better :)

Keep us posted as you go and ask any questions you may have. Lots of folks here who've walked the walk and their collective wisdom is pretty impressive.

Wishing you a quick and uneventful recovery! Post when you get a chance. We are all a community. Tom

I just got home yesterday, had surgery Friday and it felt SO good.
