My husband musician2k died unexpectedly on Monday, October 13, 2008. There are no other words to say other than...what a great loss. He had open heart surgery in July of 2006, and although it was a long struggle, he had done well. We had just moved into a new house, and he was adding students to his music studio. We had begun to accept our new, adjusted life together and were so happy.

I know that many of you were of great support to both of us, and I thank you. My heart is breaking, and I feel so alone.

Please keep me in your thoughts. It's going to be a long road ahead of me as my life yet again makes new changes.

He taught private piano lessons at his home and played for funerals at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He also taught choral music at Western School from 1989 until 2005. He graduated in 1983 from Forest High School in Forest, Miss., and Ball State University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in music. He was a ham radio operator. I finally got a cause of death for Chris. They are reporting it as an arrhthymia. I know that he battled with this, but the doctor indicated that it was being treated with medicines. I never thought.... I just wanted to share this with you.

Thanks for setting up the sight for me. I appreciate this and all the kind words.

Carla Smith

I’m sure that you will remember me. I am Carla, wife of Christopher and fondly known as musician2k. Chris died on October 13th. Thank you so much for adding Chris’s information to this site. I appreciate you remembering Chris in this way. I know that he turned to valvereplacement.com when he struggled with so many things before and after surgery. This site was such a reassurance to him and to me following his open heart surgery and his death.

I’ve learned throughout the months without Chris that grief is not an easy struggle. I’ve been in all the different steps of grief, sometimes all of them in one given day. The most difficult stage is likely the one where I will find myself stuck in at this time. It’s been suggested that I look for reasons and causes to involve these emotions with. I have found one. This is why I am writing to you.

I have decided to participate in the Heart Walk in my town in memory of Chris on October 3, 2009. I have created a team in his name. I am seeking pledges of support as I walk the three miles for Chris because he wanted to do this but never had the energy to do this. I will be walking for Chris. Although I can’t do anything more to help Chris, I can do this to hopefully help someone else and to share his story with others. He was an amazing, humble, giving man. He was just 43 years old. He had a lot life and love to give to others. It’s time that people remember him, honor him, and give to others. This is what he would want me to do.

So please support the AHA in this Heart Walk in memory of Chris. The website for donations and information is http://centralindianaheartwalk.kintera.org/chrissmith . If possible, please share this link to others on this site.

I give my blessings to you and to this site…and as always my thanks to your continued support as I work towards finding my new “normal.”
