Hi all.....

I just wanted to post and let you know that I FINALLY found out what is going on with my stomach.....as it turns out, Dr. Maher, my gastroenterologist, overlooked telling me that I have a Hiatal Hernia, so my PCP, Dr. Hussain is trying to manage it with Nexium and if that doesn't work, then they will operate....

I was also told by Dr. Hussain today, that the reason that the Cardio's are not doing anything about my heart valves at this time is that I have so many co morbidities, that they don't want to operate unless absolutely necessary...In short, they are afraid to operate on me. He said that they would operate when the time comes, but not before, so I am still in the waiting room. At least I got some answers today....I am thrilled to at least have things acknowledged, not swept under the carpet like I have been feeling. Anyway, I just wanted to let yall know....Harrybaby:D:eek::D

well, it's good that you know what's wrong, and that you know that you are being taken seriously. Now you can focus on a fix ....

I have had diarrhea since surgery, just over a year ago, and have had CTscan, upper abdominal ultrasound, pelvic ultrasound, numerous stool cultures and so on, nothing shows as being wrong. My gastro says I can take up to 8 (yes, 8 as in eight) immodium daily and do no harm to my insides. I have never been like that, and I would like to know what the h**l is going on in there. He also says we can't rule out medication I have been on since surgery, and is reluctant to do a colonoscopy because of the anti-coagulant .....so I feel I am going round in circles, and getting nowhere

Oh Jeanette, I know how you feel.....

Oh Jeanette, I know how you feel.....

I have to say, that sometimes I wonder if the docs, at least in NH here anyway, like to keep a patient in mystery simply so they can make more Cha Ching off of the insurance companies and be able to make their Porshe payments.....:eek: Please know that I am praying that they find a solution and fix you up right quick....Hugs, Harrybaby:eek:

Man, it's high time you got some answers. Hope the Nexium helps out and that your other issues get the appropriate attention.

It's good to hear that the dr may have found some relief for you. I had a hiatal hernia and was treated with nexium. I was treated prior to the nexium with other medications but the nexium was the best.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Harry (and Netmiff),

The frustration of your experiences made me think of a book I saw recently titled How Doctors Think. (I have to confess I only skimmed it at the time, and haven't read it thoroughly yet. ) Here is a summary from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Doctors_Think
Look especially at the last section, Suggestions for patients.
The reason that Harry is getting facts from his PCP, not his specialists, also seems to be addressed in this discussion.

Harry, I hope the Nexium works!

Glad you have some answers, Harry and I hope the Nexium helps- hugs!

Thank You Debbie....

I hope this new treatment will give you some relief, Harry. You have been through misery and it's time.

I got the news of the Hernia yesterday, which was my father's birthday, and I actually had a very hard time calling him to wish him a happy birthday as I got so down in the dumps about the diagnosis....I have wayyyyyy too many diseases and I have to admit that I am having a hard time wanting to continue to fight the battle. There always seems to be something new on the horizon that I don't have yet...truthfully, I am getting tired.....Thank God I have school to focus my attention on....Harrybaby:eek::D:eek:
