I'll pray for everyone's safety, too, that all will cooperate with evacuation orders, and that those in charge of the evacuations really know what to do and have the wisdom how to do it right. Authority in unwise hands can be a very frightening thing indeed. It's better to evacuate a few too many, than a few too few--so if it's chancy, err on the side of caution. Things can be replaced, but human lives are unique and cannot ever be replaced exactly the same way again. If the orders come to evacuate, just do it, and make sure your friends, relatives and neighbors within your influence do likewise. Don't try to save everyone, though. Leave them in God's hands if they're too stubborn or stupid to listen. It's not your fault or responsibility at that point.

I'll also be sure to continue to pray that Ike just stall out in the Gulf somewhere well away from land and spend its fury on no-one, then send its moisture somewhere that has been in a drought and replenish the missing water--gently so no flash floods. Meanwhile, I guess some entrepreneur may come up with "I Dis-Like Ike" buttons--I just hope there's no reason for people of a particular state to ever wear such buttons with feeling. Meanwhile, be sure to lift up in prayer the people of the Bahamas, Cuba, and the other Carribean islands already affected by Ike. No matter which country you're in, having your home destroyed hurts--and, except for the grace of God, there blew our homes away as well.

God Bless, and be safe!

Chris

Although I don't wish any harm to anyone, I could use a few extra days off work! :p We're about 85 miles from the coast, so pretty safe, but inner city Houston usually shuts down if they are near. Too many glass buildings, too many underpasses, too many evacuators, too many possible tornadoes, rain, flooding, the whole bit tends to slow things down. Plus the evacuation routes come across I-10 and the inbound lanes turn to outbound lanes, so it's a real mess.

They are now predicting that it will be around Corpus, but if you look at the path of the 1900 hurricane that destroyed Galveston, it kind of looked the same when it came across Cuba. Still too far out to tell at this time. Five day forecasts are on average 200-300 miles off. It has also weakened a lot and they are giving it less than a 50/50 chance of strenghtening.

Pack up though Janie, just in case.

My Goodness GF! You can pack up and come north! As long as you don't mind incorporating and joining forces with my moving van;).

I will say a prayer that is passes for you.

Adding thoughts and prayers for all of you there and
those close by for your SAFETY.

Depends on how fast the geezer moves. If it picks up speed, yeap your going to have a visitor, if not, it'll go farther North.

Hey GF you need to get outta there! Anyway, Gina could use the help moving! :D Please try to stay safe! I'll keep you and everyone done that way, in my prayers!

We'll get the rains, but..

We'll get the rains, but..

http://www.king-ranch.com/maps.html

This morning they say it will hit on the coast between Corpus Christi and Brownsville which is smack dab in the middle of the King Ranch coastline and that's 825,000 acres of nobody....very remote.

Really, if any hurricane needs to hit land between Florida and Mexico - that's the best place.

Here's hoping..

That StormPulse is a good hurricane tracker -- I heard about it on the Neal Boortz show....

Y'all stay safe. Superbob will keep trying to blow this thing away from the coastline.

That is a good link!

I hope the forecasters are correct, and it does hit landfall in a nonpopulated area.
We'll be keeping an eye out for you all!

Hi Sheza

Janie.....please be careful. If you have to evacuate, make sure you heed the warning. Ugh!!! I''ll put you in my prayers.

Latest projection, it is expected to turn north and hit between Corpus and Palacios. Janie, are you near Victoria or the Hill Country? Seems like I remember a small town near Victoria, but perhaps you've moved. Galveston is still a possible target, or could be on the messy side of the storm. My husband's company is planning to move their jets from Hobby Airport (south of Houston) to Austin in the next few days. He's not sure if he will be going with them, or if it will be one of the other guys. The water, tuna, snacks, etc. should be disappearing from store shelves in the next couple of days. Gas prices will jump; I'm actually surprised they haven't already. The weather people are already having loads of fun!

They don't expect many people to evacuate. As I mentioned in the thread on Gustav, people get tired of leaving and nothing happening, so they tend to get lax.

They are saying that Austin may get 60 mph straight line winds. This one looks like the real thing and pretty scary. The pictures of Cuba that the weather channel has been showing look really bad. Latest word is this one will rival Katrina and Rita.

We went to Corpus the last week of June. The gulf water was like bath water, the warmer the water the greater potential for severe hurricanes.

Louise - God wouldn't dare mess up Austin!!!

Actually, Allen messed up Austin way more than the coastal areas. You just never know. It's still pretty weak, right now, so who knows. I'm sure my husband's company will move the jets farther inland if it looks like Austin will have high winds. 60 mph is probably okay when they are in a hanger. Still waiting!
