Crikey Wise and Cindy...that was close...glad you are ok and enjoyed a soothing wine or two.

Mary I am trusting your trusty crystal ball to be accurate and look forward to a great week.

Jeannie I am in awe of the marvellous results you are getting .A big congratulations on your efforts.

Karlynn thanks for the sympathy. I would give anything to ditch this little pot belly. I am not ready to write it off to middle age spread yet!

Well here goes. I need to lose about 12 lbs so today my starting weight is 152 lbs.

Now before you say PFFFFFFT only 12 lbs I have been trying to do this for probably a year and it goes up 3 comes down 2 goes down 2 comes up 3. Well you get the picture it's not happening.

So today Sunday 8/17/08 152

Earline, welcome!!!! ... I know exactly how you feel ...up and down, up and down ... I am the Head Yo-Yo ..... welcome and just to let you know I have always thought that the last 1- to 15 pounds were the hardest to lose

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! I'm in the same predicament. Welcome to the "club". If laughing was the only thing I had to do to lose weight, I'd have reached my goal just because of the Throw Down.

Welcome Earline now Karlynn and myself have another girl to play yo-yo's with. YAY! Its awfully frustating to fight with those last few kilos/pounds. It seems they are particularly stubborn!

Hey, what about me??? I'm right there with y'all. I've been playing with the same 2-4 lbs. since Christmas!

I'm about ready to give up, too. If it weren't for this throw down, I would have a long time ago.

Welcome Earline! :D

Purina Diet - Watch what you ask Retiree's!

Purina Diet - Watch what you ask Retiree's!

Okay, since we're talking diets & loosing weight here, I thought I'd post this silly email a friend sent me & put a smile on your face.

The next time someone asks you a dumb question, wouldn’t you like to respond like this:

Yesterday, I was a PetsMart buying a large bag of Purina Dog Chow for my loyal pet “Angel the Warrior Dog” and was in the checkout lane when this woman behind me asked me if I had a dog.

What, she think I had an elephant? :D:rolleyes:

So since I’m retired and have very little else to do, on impulse I told her, “No, I don’t have a dog. I’m starting the Purina Diet again.”

I added that I probably shouldn’t because I ended up in the hospital the last time, but that I had lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of every orifice and IV’s in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet, and that the way it works is to load your pockets with Purina nuggets. Then you simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well, and I was going to give it another try.

I have to mention that at this point, everyone on the checkout line was now completely enthralled by my story.

Horrified, the lady asked if I ended up in intensive car because the dog food had poisoned me?

I told her, no, that I had stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter’s ass and a car had hit us both!

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was laughing so hard.

PetsMart won’t allow me to shop at their store anymore!

So the next time, you better watch what you ask a retiree. They have an awful lot of time on their hands & think of the craziest things to say! :)

ME TOO!! or rather ME-TWO, since I'm back down to only 2 above goal as of this morning. Maintenance is A BEE-OTCH!

Of course, I will probably have to claim the birthday mulligan for next week, and the holiday mulligan for the week after. :p

2007-2008 ThrowDown Close Out.......

2007-2008 ThrowDown Close Out.......

Friday, 8-29-08 will draw to a close the first year of the weight loss ThrowDown ? It has been loads of fun for me and the benefits have been enormous!!! ? Laughter ?is? the best medicine for the Chimp:D ? I plan on posting my weeks weight loss (if any:rolleyes:) and my total for the year along with a few other accomplishments that have been a direct spin off, I believe of the ThrowDown ? If you will be thinking about what you have gained from this year of shenanigans:p and any positive impact it has had in your life and be willing to post it I would appreciate it ? I would love others to read the success stories and toss their hat into the ring?.

Speaking of spin offs, I guess we are all here as a spin off of out heart issues and Valvereplacement.com is a spin off of our leader Hank?s valve replacement. I am eternally grateful to Hank for allowing us the latitude for this type of thread ? I am grateful to his DW who I am sure spent a lot of time wishing he would get off that darn computer.;) Also, many thanks to Ross who has helped keep this place going and helped me on numerous occasions with vr.com and personal issues.

Peace Out

Sounds like you're doing well with maintenance, Laurie, but what is a BEE-OTCH? Is that some kind of technical term? :p:p:p (Somehow, I don't think Superbob could avoid the shoals of political correctness if he discussed,"BEE-OTCHs I have known." :p

You may have a hard time getting The Ref to give you a mulligan for Labor Day.
:D

Well, Superbob had the first in a grand tour of doctors' appointments over the next six weeks -- this one a three-month follow-up with the GP.

Superbob was pleased be be down 5 pounds on even the doctor's scales since the last GP visit -- thank you, Throw Down.

GP's numbers for cholesterol, blood sugar, PSA, all that good stuff were in the good range. Won't give them, TMI.

I had been wondering about occasional small bouts of light-headedness. My folksy doc confirmed that it's the BP-lowering meds. His guideline: "Get your BP as low as you can, short of fainting."

The reason, he said, is that it takes a load off the replacement heart valve. I had never been told that directly by a cardio. Was wondering why I stay on metoprolol and lisinopril. Hope the GP's philosophy is right.

Next, on to the cardio and knee appointments/surgery/PT. After all that, Superbob plans to go into training for the 2012 Olympics in London. Watch for the emergence of SuperBionicBob, first to medal in swimming/track&field/heavyweight boxing, all in same Olympics. :p:D

Bob,
5 pounds in 3 months is great! Especially with that knee!

Yeah, it's technical, all right. "OTCH" stands for Obedience Trained CHampion. B-Otch or Bee-Otch is a female dog who may not live long enough to earn any title if she doesn't learn to "Bee-have!"
Dog trainers understand deep in our souls why the technical term became a cuss word.

--laurie (sporting fresh bruises from the Royal B-Otch's excessive opinon this past weekend: "Whatcha mean I gotta work for that toy! GIMME!").

SuperBob ... sounds like a good report, congrats:) ... Glad to get an explination on the metoprolol ... I was in hopes of getting off of it via exercise but it sounds like that will not be the case......

Way to go, SuperBob!

I'm so glad to read you're planning on the 2012 Olympics in London. I just mentioned last night to DH that in four years our house and car would both be paid off, and I thought a trip to England was in order.
With your announcement, I will go ahead with plans to get tickets to the swimming/track&field/heavyweight boxing venues.
See you there, if not sooner!;):p

Yes, women's beach volleyball is my new favorite sport. Saw a match the other day that was completed in a driving rainstorm. Appreciate the aesthetics. :D
