I was at the grocery store today browsing the aisles trying to get inspired for something to fix tonight for dinner. If you've ever watched me shop before it's a long process of picking up everything on a shelf, turning it to the back, and checking the sodium content, then usually putting it right back where it was because the sodium is way too high. I always compare brands until I find the one that has the lowest sodium if there are choices. I've made some very good finds this way, by the way.

Today I was looking at the marinades and lo and behold I spot MRS. DASH has four flavors of marinade! There's Mesquite (with a hint of apple), lemon pepper, teriyaki, and one more that I can't remember. And just like Mrs. Dash's seasonings, they are sodium free! :D I can't wait to try the teriyaki tonight (doing fresh stir fry). After looking at the sodium content of all the asian marinades I was starting to get depressed. I hope they continue to put out more no sodium stuff. Next I want some salad dressing! ;)

ETA: I just checked the web site and it looks like there are actually six different flavors to choose from: Mesquite Grille, Garlic Lime, Zesty Garlic Herb, Lemon Herb Peppercorn, Spicy Teriyaki, and Southwestern Chipotle.

I do the same thing you do when I go shopping ---- look at the sodium content on everything!

The Ms. Dash marinades BTW are delicious! I have stock piled on them & use them on meat, chicken, pork & they are excellent! :)

Which Mr. Spice marinades / sauces have you tried? Do you recommend any one in particular?

Thanks for the link to Mr. Spice!

Thanks for the Mrs. Dash marinades product info too! I have been looking high and low for low sodium or sodium free products in the grocery store.

I've used all of the Mr. Spice sauces. They are all excellent and even come with a recipe brochure. There is a garlic steak sauce (tastes like A1), a Thai peanut sauce, a ginger stir-fry sauce, the Tangy Bang which is a hot sauce to use on many things, with Sweet and Sour you can make some delish Oriental foods, honey barbecue, hot wing, Indian curry and honey mustard. They are all very different and award winning.

It all depends on what you like to cook. You can use them as a marinade, a cooking sauce, or directly from the bottle to use on your food.

Joe loved the Tangy Bang which is just like the name. It has a kick and makes you forget that there isn't any salt.

I also liked the Mrs. Dash sauces. I found the Mr. Spice sauces to be a little more rounded, finished and less strident in the amount of garlic and other spices. Just a smoother sauce.

And don't forget about the Healthy Heart Market which is also online and ships fast. They have a wide variety of low and no sodium foods including salad dressing, barbecue sauce, hot sauces and spice mixes, plus much, much more. One thing that I used a lot was their Ener-G baking soda and baking powder substitutes ( regular baking powder and soda has a lot of sodium). They also have unsalted relishes and pickles which Joe liked a lot. Take a look at all their items, it's a big site.

Thanks for the information. I put it on my grocery list to check out. I watch my sodium too so need all the help I can get for taste. I check all the labels when shopping. It's alot of work but worth it.:)

Niki, in which grocery store did you find the Mrs. Dash marinades? I've found only 1 at a Tom Thumb, and none at Wal-mart. Do you shop at the Kroger up there in your neck of the woods?
I just placed an order for (i) a bunch of the Mr. Spice sauces (thanks for the tip, Nancy!) and (ii) 5 low and no-salt cookbooks I've had my eye on at amazon.com for 6 months. Next week is my birthday, and 9/5 is my 2nd valversary, so these are my presents. Dang, I'm boring, but Happy Birth-a-Versary to me!
As I stumble on good recipes in the cookbooks I'll be sure to share!

Sounds great! Can't wait to hear what you discover. :D

I just ordered 1 of each of the Mr. Spice marinades except for the Indian Curry. I've never been too fond of Indian food.

Can't wait til I get them & try them out. The recipes that are listed for each of them also sound great; printing them out.

I have found the Ms. Dash marinades at Albertson stores ---- don't know if you have these stores where you live & I have seen them at our Super Walmart too.
