Okay, get your mind out of the gutter, I'm talking scar size, not something else. I'm just curious as to who has the biggest scar of open heart.

I have two scars, one on my sternum from my valve replacement, and one around my side and onto my back from when they did a CoArt repair when I was 8. My chest scar is 12" long, but I can't measure the other one yet, so I will post that later when my wife can help me measure that one.

So, how big is yours? :)

Boy what I could do with that opening.......but this is a family show.:):):)

Mine is of the old type in the shaped of a "Y". The long side is 10" and each of the wings is 2", making 14" total.......and I am proud.:p:p:p

Never measured all of mine. Got my chest, thoracotomy, left leg/butt check/for hip replacement. I gots lots and lots.

Talk about an "Eye Catching!!" WhoooooHooo!! :D:p

I always told Joe his chest and back and sides looked like a train switchyard, tracks all over the place. Nurses and doctors would study each one and ooh and ahh, asking what each one was for.

Fortunately, he healed extremely well, and his scars caused barely a ripple on his skin, and faded so you could barely see them. You can't hide those scars from medical people though ;)

12 inches is a pretty admirable sized chest scar!...I got a fairly standard 8 incher and another 8 incher on my leg to match from the bypass....They opened my chest up twice though so does that make it 16 inches?...LOL....

I'm 5'5" and my heaert scar is 12" long. Of course I look like Zoro put his brand all over my body. Surgeries from appendix, gal bladder, kidney, breast cancer, feet surgeries, knee surgery, fell in a box of glass and have a 10" scar on my leg. I have a 6" scar on my elbow from my mother throwing a knife at me when I was a small child. Thank goodness I don't remember that, but it almost cut off my arm. A 10" scar on the underside of my wrist where I accidently put it through a door window while I was painting the door.

And I wonder why I have scar tissue giving me problems in my insides!:confused:

I don't win for the biggest - my sternal scar is only 4 inches long but I share the "around the side and up my back scar" from my co-arc repair at the age of two. That scar is just over 14 inches long - and I am only 5'4" !!

I was wondering if anyone else had an around the side scar.

Interesting note on this approach. I asked my doc why they did the operation this way back then and he said as a child, we are quite flexible enough for them to contort our arm enough and spread the ribs enough to prevent having to cut through the sternum.

I bet if they tried to do that to me now, I would need a chiropractor after the surgery.
