I live in Southern Indiana.
I had reduction aortoplasty of 4.9 cm ascending aneurysm at time of AVR. I now have a 4.5 cm ascending aneurysm. Would the walls of my aorta be extra 'weak' because of the first aneurysm?

I don't know the answer to that question, Annie, but I hope you're keeping regularly scheduled appts. with your surgeon. Have you asked him this question?
I know that I met a young man at my post op surgical appt who was facing the same situation. My surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Kouchoukos in St. Louis, had been following him for some time to determine when the surgery would need to take place again.
Have you checked the BAV foundation page? You might be able to find some information there that would help you.
Here's the link in case you don't have it.

Hi Mary,
I asked my surgeon, and he looked at me like I'd grown another eye:( I have since gone to the cleveland clinic for another opinion, and am awaiting their response...

My case is being reviewed by Dr. Svennson at the cleveland clinic...it is a 7 1/2 hour drive from my home, but I think the quality of care will be worth it. I hope so, anyway. I have read good things about him here and on their site.

How far are you from St. Louis, Annie? That's where Dr. Kouchoukos is, and as Rachel mention, he is well respected in the BAV community.

St. Louis is only 3 hours away. Unfortunately, my insurance network is Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. I feel lucky that Cleveland Clinic is in my network, so I will suffer through the drive. I just hope I hear something soon. I have heard many say waiting is the hardest part, and I definitely agree.

Anita,
I'm very sorry to hear you are going through this. Dr. Svennson did my aortic valve replacement and aneurysm repair in September, and I was extremely pleased with him. When I had my consultation, he sat down as if he had all the time in the world and answered every question I had. He's also very fast - I can no longer remember how long I was on the bypass machine but it was a ludicrously short time measured in minutes rather than hours. You are truly in good hands. I wish you the best. Kate
