I keep checking back in to see if there's word. Still praying for her.

Superbob - Got all fingers & toes crossed and sending best of vibes/wishes/prayers to you and your lovely wife. (((((Hugs)))))

You did the right thing, you don't want to mess with stroke.

Not to derail this thread but if anyone is interested, since I work for NIH, here's a site we just launched recently with much more information to be added shortly pending editorial review (not an ad, this is a federal site).

http://stroke.ninds.nih.gov/

With the new treatments and all the statement at the end of the video "how you spend the next 60 minutes could determine how you spend the rest of your life" is just so true. Kudos to you for getting your wife directly to the ER. We all need to have upfront in our minds what an emergency stroke really is.

Off my soapbox, sorry.

Superbob, keeping you forefront in my thoughts.

Peace,
Ruth

Sorry, don't mean to keep everyone hanging -- appreciate the prayers and good wishes so much.

The tests so far have come out okay, but they are keeping her another night because they want to do an MRI and the medical bureaucracy has to produce a form saying the metal used to cap her brain aneurysm in 1996 at a hospital in Richmond was MRI-safe. (It was and she's even had an MRI since then in DC but the bureaucratic requirements have to be fulfilled. I was issued a card with my heart valve that verified it's MRI-safe but evidently those cards weren't standard practice for other kinds of aneurysm operations back then, and may still not be. Should be able to take care of that just by showing a card -- as I was able to do in setting up my knee MRI for next Monday.)

Hopefully she will come home tomorrow and it will all have been a minor or even better a non event. I know your prayers help.

Long nite SB and thanks for update and contiue my positive thoughts
and prayers for both of you.

glad things are looking good. sending prayers your way & hoping your wife will be returning home tomorrow.

Superbob, you are both in my prayers. I understand completely how when something threatens one you love how whatever you are going through yourself suddenly fades into the background. I think that is just the nature of love. My prayers are for a good outcome for both of you and many more years together.

Thanks for taking the time to update and we will continue to pray that it is a "non-event" and that she is home tomorrow.

Hey Bob,

Thoughts/prayers coming to your wife...and you, too, of course!

Bob, I'm with you in spirit, and praying for a good outcome.

A very nice and informative "stroke care coordinator" just came by DW's room and I was there along with daughter and granddaughter. We all got some great advice on diet and exercise.

The word from the coordinator is that they think my wife had a TIA, transient ischemic attack, commonly referred to as a mini-stroke. They just took her down for an MRI so still have to hear results of that.

Good news is that a TIA produces no lasting damage. Bad news is that more than a third of people who have a TIA have a major stroke within three months. So preventive steps are important. She drastically needs to cut down on salt and Coca-Cola and sugary and caffeinated things (we've all been giving her heck about that for years but now we've got the Coordinator's backing).

Beginning to look doubtful she'll be released today; maybe tomorrow.

Thank you again for all the well wishes and prayers. I know they have helped very much.

Thank you for the update SB - it sounds like she's being well-cared for. (And sounds like we have another unofficial member of the throw-down, by default of eliminating all those things!)
