I am nine days post-surgery and can now take care of all my hygiene needs except.... underarms. You know, shaving. The combo of lifting my arm that high and turning my neck to see what I'm doing is still beyond me, and might be for a few more days.

I know what you're thinking: "I'm facing major surgery! I don't care about that!" But nine, eleven, fourteen days out, you'll be out of major pain and you will, indeed, start to care about the Great Armpit Forest, so my pre-surgery tip is: Get Waxed!

Well getting waxed will definitely take your mind off of the impending surgery. :D At least for a few seconds.

I actually had my husband shave my legs a few weeks after surgery. (My back was really sore.) If it had been a few months after surgery it may have been romantic - but 2 weeks out - it was strictly a pity shave.

You LOOK at your underarms when you're shaving them?
Okay , if this is a survey....yes:eek:
And if you are going to wax the arms-do the legs too(more comfortable)
Also while in hospital, it helps to have family/friend who can do a french braid
or something similar for you, Especially if you have med. length or long hair.

People thought I was crazy for wanting to shave after about two weeks.
But, I could'nt stand it anymore!!! Glad you know the feeling so now I know I'm not so crazy.:D

Dina, you french braid your underarm hair? :D

I guess I was lucky. I had no problems shaving and did so the morning after I came home from the hospital. Of course, I also unhooked my wires and took a shower as soon as they moved me from CICU on the second day after surgery. Perhaps this is another advantage of the horizontal scar? Most of my pain was in my shoulders from the backward bend that the sadistic surgeons seem to like.

Braids were GREAT in the hospital. I was able to do "Pipi Longstocking" braids myself. (That's what my husband called them.) They not only prevented knots, but it was helpful when I woke up all sweaty in the middle of the night.

Lisa-very funny,I LOL'd on that,but I probably would if I didnt shave for a couple weeks:eek:
Pony girl mom- yes the braids are MUCH better than the alternative-Dreads!!
I guess you wouldnt want to see any pictures of me coming home:eek:

From both my OHS, the morning after I came home, I was in the shower and shaved legs and pits so for those with upcoming surgeries.....here's another example of everyone is different.

I just let the pit fur grow....we called it "hamster" pits. Being blonde helped.
A few weeks out I tried to cut my toe nails. BIG mistake. Pain in my back, arm, shoulder, and neck.

Well obviously this goes to show another way that we are different. I don't bend my back when shaving my legs. I recline in the tub and bring my knee up. The top half of my leg requires no bending of anything.

I am not extremely hairy on my legs or my pits, but as I age, you should see my mustache and beard! I have my face waxed regularly. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell me apart from Cooker's and Ross's avatars!

I was surprised by hard it was to lean over the sink to peer into the mirror and pluck a few chin hairs. Let's just say that they will stay there for a few more days!

(I hope no one is on this forum trying to find a date! We don't sound particularly alluring right now!)

I was just thinking the same thing- there will be no men at all on this site,
we will have scared them all away:eek: and then WHO is going to do all the
computer 'stuff' to keep the sight going:confused:
Not to say that we cant get along without the guys.... I want to stress
that I didnt mean that:D

Ladies have pity on me then, when I had my stroke and was taken into hospital I think I was in need of a shave but got stuck in hospital for almost six weeks without a razor, my tweezers etc. I could virtually yank my chin hairs out by hand!

I have given my daughter strict instructions that should I ever become incapable and get 'put away in a home' then would she please ensure they plucked my whiskers. Most indignities I can cope with but being a bearded lady isn't one of them. :)

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

This conversation has definitely ended up in the dungeon (or perhaps the jungle), although it is giving me some pretty cheap laughs!

I had to take some of my smilies out because we can only use 10 images!!!

I have told my children that if I am ever in a state where I cannot pluck my chin hairs that my team of lawyers has been instructed to immediately remove them from my will and all my fortune if they allow the chin hairs (or Old Lady hairs as I call them) to grow out.
