Here we are, sitting in front of the computer on July 4th. Don't we have cookouts and things to go to and do today? :p

Well, good point. :p Right now, it's drizzling, but we're planning to grill steaks on the deck a little later. Went out to the country store and bought some more tomato plants to add to the garden. DW got some patriotic stuff to display outdoors. We're not big on venturing out in the traffic to see the fireworks displays (besides the dawgs would be alone and scared of the local fireworks), but will probably be able to see some in the distance out here in the dark countryside.
Of course, there are the old-age infirmities tending to keep us (me) close to home, like the gimpy knees. At least that will do as an excuse. :D

I hear ya. I guess we'll do some burgers on the grill after while. Fireworks....That's for the young folk and those insane enough to love traffic jams. If all holds true, my neighbor next door will have enough fireworks to drive me insane.

What do you mean young folks and fireworks?:) I guess were getting to old to beat the crowd, we are just staying home too having friends over to BBQ and watch fireworks from the street corner. What a life!!! It's to darn HOT to do anything else. Even the back patio is a HOT 102 so I'll guess I will have to join Superbob on his deck for the BBQ. Hope you guys have a good one and don't eat to much.....:D

Yeah, you'd think we don't have a life, huh Ross??? :):D:p

We'll probably do some burgers later on this evening & I rented a couple movies that we'll watch later. Around this area, most fireworks have been banned due to the very dry conditions which I really don't mind anyway. Like you said, fireworks are a fasination for the younger generation.

My dogs go crazy w/the noise anyway!

Nope nothing better to do. We were not invited to a BBQ and my feelings aren't hurt at all. Too hot here for outdoors. My husband and I ate Taco Bell for lunch. Maybe we'll go out for dinner or not.:D
Fire works were last night we could hear them but didn't go.

I'm allowed

I'm allowed

I just took my walk so I am allowed to play on the computer:D. We had one cookout already and we have a couple of movies to watch tonight. I normally take my daughter to the city park for day long festivities but that is not possible this year. I bought her rollerblades today to make up for it a little so she is pretty happy right now.

We're grilling about 5 o'clock, and then going to our daughter's to set off fireworks.
There's an airshow that runs in conjunction with the city's firework's display being held at the airport.
It was suppose to be held on the riverfront, but the Mississippi just crested last Wednesday, and the flood gates are still up.
I hope the weather clears so we get a ceiling high enough for the planes to fly.

what kind of dogs do you all have?

I have Sadie, a sweet golden lab/retriever mix, about 7 years old, and

Daisy, an 11-month-old chocolate lab, who is also sweet but VERY busy :p
I am supposedly keeping Daisy while my son and his family are relocating, but come to think of it, I was just keeping Sadie for him too, back 6 years ago. :p

We had July 1st Canada Day....good thing my 14 yr old chocolate Labrador sleeps through anything.
My previous Airedale would sit on my lap shaking and drooling the whole night long.
We are having spinach/chicken pizza today...!!

Our big fireworks display is by the Grucci brothers from barges on the river. The Mohegan and the Pequot casinos sponsor it, but it is always the weekend after the 4th in conjunction with a downtown fair??? Dick and I always invite friends and family to watch the extravaganza from our patio. Today we went out for breakfast, picked up some lobsters on sale at Shop-Rite (5.99/lb) and had them steamed there. Tonight's dinner is lobster rolls and home-made cole-slaw. Worked hard all week on house projects, so Dick has spent the afternoon watching tennis on TV and I have spent it reading, napping and of course, checking VR.com - Happy 4th of July everyone!

Mine too.:mad::eek: They just put in an above ground pool and seem like a wild group.

We have family in town that we'll get together with soon. No big festivities here.

But you know what's worse, idiots that start shooting their guns in the air! Don't they realize that "what goes up must come down" & hopefully not kill anyone when it does!!!

Around here neighbours have guns for farm related use....shooting them in the air causes me to call the cops.
The parties scare my goats enough....poor little sweeties. Once I had to get the vet in.

Now what in the bleep would they need to shoot guns into the air for? A festive gesture? You might be a redneck if....:p;)

We have Perry, Cindy's golden retriever guide dog, and small dogs also. I know at least two close neighbors who will be shooting off their fire works. Some of those things land in our yard. I don't like to have to let the dogs out when that's going on, but when you have to go you have to go.

I'm just a neighborhood fireworks grump. I think they should only be done by professionals. Just my little old personal opinion.

Happy 4th!

My kids are having a party about 70 miles from where I live. I was invited to go home with my son and grandson Wed. evening, but I would not get home until Momday morning. I have two dogs, a German Sheppard, she is so tough, when she hears fireworks of any kind she jumps in my lap or follows me around right next to my legs. I am afraid she will have a heart attach. My Akita and Husky mix just lays there like what all the fuss about. I can't bring them with me because of the shedding hair the they leave. Don't have anyone to come in to feed and check on them. All my friends love my dogs when I am here buy would be afraid to enter if I not here.

My Dogs, Savanna and Chief, & myself are spending the day together playing. Love me Love my Dogs..:D

We were already supposed to be at the beach but with all of our woes, we haven't been able to leave yet. I had to take my husband back to the ER for a big ol' shot of pain meds...his kidney stone still hasn't passed and was killing him this morning. I'm hoping to be able to hit the road tomorrow. Happy 4th everyone.

Who?s sitting around!

This 4th has been excellent for us. My 11 year old twins and I started the day strawberry picking early, by mid day we shared our labors with a group of friends for a BBQ and in short order we are headed down to the waterfront for the fireworks.

It?s been a banner day, by better pacing myself I am enjoying many more days.

After July 16th, everyday is going to be Independence Day for me!

It could be worse. Last year a Cleveland fireman lost it when they started lighting off fireworks next door to him and he went over and shot three people dead.
