Anne, I'm starting this thread "really" early for you as I understand you are leaving for all your pre-testing, angiogram, etc. before your surgery on the 23rd. Don't know if you will have internet access before the surgery, but want you to know that our prayers and thoughts will be with you all the way and we look forward to hearing about a successful surgery and uneventful recovery. Safe travels and Godspeed!

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks.... yes we are leaving tomorrow and rather than try to commute back and forth we will go to Rochester and stay for the duration. I am the only one able to drive and being told not to drive I feel better getting there and getting a nearby motel. Tests on Wed, thursday and Friday. Monday's the big day!

I will post from the motel - all motels have internet access these days... don't they?

What is your plan for getting home after surgery- generally, driving is not allowed for 6 weeks.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and smooth, speedy, recovery.

I hope you've made arrangements for somebody else to drive home. Trust me, you won't be driving for several weeks post-op....(1) it's dangerous due to the healing sternum and you may possibly still be on pain meds and (2) it's very uncomfortable. I had a hard enough time being a passenger, and couldn't imagine driving in those early weeks post-op.

Wishing you the very best, Anne. Hope your surgery goes smoothly and you have an uneventful recovery. Please let us know how you are doing as soon as you are able.
We'll be thinking about you!

Godspeed.....safe travel.

Yes - I have a sister coming in on Thursday (Friday is the angio) and she is staying for a week with us in Rochester then flying back. My brother in law and his wife are coming Sunday to MSP and will drive both cars (mine and their rental) back to our home. She will drop by and pick up the cat and then stay until the home health people get comfortable. After that I live about 50 yards from a big grocery store, pharmacy, post office, senior center, pizza outlet and movie rental place. I plan on walking up to the coffee shop and over to the convenience store for a paper before sitting out on the porch and feeding the birds.

Away we go

Away we go

Had the blood taken for tests, consultations, stress test and it seems like a whole lot more the past two days. Getting up early to head over for the Angio this morning and will see how that goes. So far no delays or anything but smooth sailing. I feel I have two top doctors giving me good advice and the nurses are my support team. Feelling better about this as we continue the countdown.

Best wishes for a successful surgery Anne, and a smooth uneventful recovery. Prayers and positive thoughts are coming to you. Look forward to hearing how well things went for you.

Glad you are almost there Anne and hope the angio goes well today. Try to enjoy the weekend and you will be in our thoughts and prayers on Monday.

Sunday Morning - A bright and beatiful day it is.

Sunday Morning - A bright and beatiful day it is.

Thanks to everyone who has been so very supportive getting to this point. We made a quick trip home yesterday (about an hour and a half away) and had sandwiches and a beer. Did the laundry and got caught up on the mail. The Angio was great - arteries like fire hoses. Got the consultation out of the way and have decided (if required) that I would opt for a mechanical valve because of my age and activity. Today is the start of the anti-bacterial in the nose treatments and tonight I will do the first bacteriacide shower. Plus side to the shower is that I have to stand in the shower with warm water on my back for 10 MINUTES! Yes! Then again tomorrow morning. Call tonight for my time to report in the morning.

May not post again here and will jump to the post-surgery forum for the next postings.

Again Thanks for all the support - One thing I am taking with me for post-op is my water colors, brushes and paper.

All's well

All's well

Wheewee:

All is well. The surgery on the 23rd went wonderful starting the process at 0545. Went under around 0815 and was into the ICU around 1300.

The MV was repaired with the support ring. My option was to have the mechanical valve (St. Jude) installed if it was required. Happy to report my valve was repaired and the mechanical was not installed.

I have no idea what time I was extubated but that was the best tube they pulled out by far. That last suctioning of the lungs was not fun. Then I got the heart pillow. ICE CHIPS - There was nothing more wonderful than those.

Nothing much after that - tubes out. Incision is healing. Discharged on Friday 6/27.

Weekend at home resulted in fainting episodes - one causing much consternation and was carted back to the local ER Sunday night. Readmitted in the Cardiac wing and monitored - nothing found. Am now home (Tuesday 7/2) with a portable Holter monitor and will record data if another fainting spell occurs.

Feel good and the appetite is back - Got rid of all the junk food my Brother in Law stocked for me - Doritos, pastries, croissants, chocolate milk, sausage bisquits, rapid cook cheeseburgers, doughnuts, whole milk, etc... Don't let your fat relatives stock your fridge for the recovery period. Wish he would have asked what I needed. Ended up with two trash bags

Anyway... all is good. Thank you for the support and I will certainly act as a resource for those who need one.

Thanks

Anne, great to hear that you made it to the other side (mountain or moon, pick your analogy. :D) Hope that your recovery will be smooth from now on. LOL to the junk food stocked by a well-meaning relative -- we of Cooker's Throw Down know of the perils of that stuff. :D

All best wishes,

So glad you are home and none the worse for the exeperience- rest up, but don't forget to walk.

Anne, welcome home. You may be having low BP, make sure to sit and rest often.
Congratulations on dumping all that junk food.....horrible stuff, it might have put you back in the ER. LOL
