I need to order more strips and I can't find the number. Thought they were already sending me some but they never arrived so think I miss understood.

ALSO we have had lots of off results either above or below Andrew's range. When we retest at the lab they often don't jive so his coumadin nurse just doesn't trust his machine. I have dealt with the manufaturer and thought the strips were bad but I now have different strips and still have the inconsitancy. It's driving me batty and it is hard for me to run to the lab everytime he is "out of range". What ya think?

QAS phone number

QAS phone number

The number for QAS is 1-800-298-4515.

The easiest way to test your machine is to "stick" someone who isn't on anticoagulation therapy. Their number should be .9, 1, or 1.1.

Good luck!

Thanks i will give them a call tomorrow. Maybe i will test myself.

Different Results

Different Results

We frequently see questions about the differences between the results from lab draws and home monitoring machines. I posed this question when I first got my machine and attempted to do results' comparisons.

The advice I received was not to compare the lab results with what I was getting with my monitor. Sure, faulty test strips may indeed be an issue, but other issues involve the procedures your lab uses to check INR. The numbers provided by the lab can vary between technicians who do procedures. How long the technicians wait to do the procedures can also have an affect on results.

Also the reagent used by the lab!

The INR system is a BIG Improvement over the old Prothrombin Time Measurement System BUT it is still not a Perfect System.

The INR number is still function of the reagent ISI number (which apparently is NOT precise and can vary between different types of reagents).

My Coumadin Clinic conducted a study in an attempt to understand why they were getting occasional FALSE High INR Readings. They asked other clinics about their (different) instruments. I was told that the answer was that ALL Fingerstick instruments had some variation.

The inherent Mathematics of the calculation shows that the Lower the INR, the more accurate the number. The higher the INR, the greater the potential for 'variation'.

The Solution that was implemented at my Clinic was to do a Lab Draw for ANY INR result of 4.5 or higher.
