I hesitate to post a thread about how great I'm doing and how easy my recovery has been when I know so many of you have had set backs and problems. I admit that the first couple of weeks weren't the best weeks of my life, but I really can't complain. I recognize that I am incredibly lucky to have had it so easy and pain free. I just really wanted to let those who are coming behind us know that sometimes, recovery can be easy and relatively uneventful.

After my scare with infection that turned out to be a non-issue, I can honestly say that at 8 weeks post op, I am feeling better than I have probably ever felt in my life. I have always had shortness of breath when doing any kind of exercising and it had gotten to the point that I would lose my breath just carrying on a conversation. I'm now walking 3-4 miles a day (in 90 degree heat I might add), up several hills, and have NO shortness of breath whatsoever. I really do feel great and even though I know I will face this surgery again at some point, I have no regrets at all.

I really want to thank all of you on here for your ongoing support.

Good News

Your post is great news! Don't ever feel badly about posting good news. Sure, others may not have as smooth a ride with the recovery stuff, but you're absoultely correct about letting others know that the recovery stuff can be a smooth trip. Others need to hear good news like yours as much as those who experience bumps need to be supported.

We often comment here that experiences associated with valve replacement surgery varies a lot among individuals. There's value in hearing about everyone's experience.

Keep up the good work and keep walking.

It's great to hear that you're doing well. I'm 8 weeks post as of tomorrow and my experience pretty much mirrors yours. About two weeks of the pits, then steady improvement. I have to say, though, that at week 7 I seem to have turned the corner on the rib pain and chest healing. I had been really concerned about all the popping and cracking I was feeling and, after reading some of the horror stories about bone healing (or lack of), I worried that I might be one of the unfortunate. Fortunately, that was not the case and things have settled down.

Here's to deep breathing and long walks!!!!
