Hey I have not been on in a month or so and finally got the letter from the surgeon earlier this month and got a date set in stone, next thursday that is, June 5th. I have known about surgery and the inevitable since early Dec. and have been able to go on and about life without a problem and school since then. These past two weeks.....I have been on edge and not been eating as well. Days go by slow but weeks go by fast. I went on vacation to Florida with my brother for 11 days and had a blast, just went camping with the girl over the weekend at my neighbors cottage and took my jetski out. I never thought the anxiety would get this high and everytime i explain the surgery to people and the reason im having it, which i would say is somewhere north of 100 times without exaggerating, and hearing them say how its weird because im so young, 21, and everything else and it really doesnt help any.....I just wish i could have had it done 6 months ago but am so glad its finally here......

just thought i would drop by and let everyone know how i was doing and that the surgery has finally come:cool:

Hi Luke, well you only have 10 days to go, hopefully they'll go fast! You are young and healthy I know they'll have you up and walking a day after surgery! They will get you up and going quickly so you will recover fast, you'll be surprised how good you feel after surgery, it's really not that bad, really! What I did several days before surgery to calm my nerves is play pool, I played several nights for hours at a time and it really calmed me down, also a few beers helped too! Hey your not old enough to drink, so don't do that! Take care Debbie :)

It'll all be behind you soon and you'll feel better for all of it
Glad you enjoyed your vacation, sounded like a blast from my past
when i was younger and not as old as 21 like you (LOL) just bugging you.
All the best for your upcoming surgery and post us upon return or when you
can....Take care

Thanks for letting us know. Now treat yourself like a King until this is over with. We'll be around for those days that you feel like you just want to run and hide. :)

Best of luck, thinking of you and wishing you have a speedy recovery.

I have been reading the posts for a couple of months and felt that I needed to share with you. My 21 year old son had AVR on 4/7/08 and was very anxious once the second opinion agreed that it was time for valve replacement. He also is a college student and originally was going to wait until after finals but he was unable to eat or sleep once the decision was made so he decided to get it over with. They ended up prescribing Xanax for him for the 2-3 weeks prior. He too struggled with the decision on valve type-he plays soccer and basketball intramurally at college and wanted to stay active. He chose the Medtronic Freestyle bioprosthetic porcine valve so no coumadin required. Post-op he is doing well has had a few set backs but is making progress he is not back to work yet but is beginning to feel more like his old self in the last week. I will be praying for you that you do well and look forward to seeing your posts.

Luke,
Glad you got your date. Ross has got you on the calendar, so it's official!:)

Hi Luke ~ I just wanted to add my best wishes and prayers to all the rest. You're young and i'm sure you will do just fine. ~~HUGS~~

thanks all for the wishes and everything, i had my blood work and urinalysis done yesterday and sigh, its here. One of the nurses from the cardiac ICU came down and talked over with me the recovery process starting with as soon as i wake up and deep breathing and everything.....it put it much more into perspective and its hitting me like a freight train....

I was also able to talk with her about the patients they receive from my surgeon and how fast they are able to heal with his minimially invasive approach, and the scar he leaves is at most 4in and its her understanding from looking over the patients that he spreads the ribs and does not cut the sternum at all and instead utilizes special tools and glasses to work. This helps me sleep at night knowing the healing process will be a little easier and my sternum can stay intact.......

Thanks again for all of the support and ill be sure to post before i go in and obviously once i get out and on the road to recovery:cool:

Luke
