Hi Gang,

I take this drug and just received this notice this morning. Thought I would pass it along. This is from Medco my prescription drug Mail-in company.

Important recall notice: Actavis has initiated a class 1 recall for all strengths of oral use Digitek (digoxin).

On April 25, 2008, Actavis initiated a class 1 recall of Digitek (digoxin) all strengths for oral use. The products are also distributed under the Bertek label by Mylan Pharmaceuticals and UDL. This voluntary recall is due to the possibility that tablets with double the appropriate thickness may have been commercially released. Those tablets may contain twice the approved level of active ingredient than is appropriate. Double strength tablets may pose a risk of toxicity in patients with renal failure. Digitalis toxicity can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability and bradycardia. Death can also result from excessive digitalis intake. Several reports of illness and injuries have been received. Digitek is used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms.

Sudden discontinuation of Digitek without your doctor's knowledge can also cause serious health problems. Please speak with your doctor immediately about this Digitek recall.

What you should do:

If you are currently using Digitek, please contact your prescriber immediately. You and your prescriber should discuss the best therapy options for you, and then obtain a 10-14 days supply prescription to be filled locally. Medco will be sending notification to all patients who are currently taking the medication.

If you have refills for Digitek you can safely refill by calling the toll free number located on your prescription medication bottle to receive medication which is not impacted by the product recall.
If you do not have refills remaining, please obtain a new mail order or regular prescription from your doctor.

Hi Ross,

No Problem with jumping ahead of me. I checked back and must have missed your original posting of this alert.

Anyway, with something as important as this, it is better to have posted the information twice, than not at all!

Hope all is well with you. I am still the "Traveling Wilbury"! Into my third year working in Germany, and still loving it. I leave to go back this Sunday, and return on the 22nd of May.

Still checking in from time to time, and posting when I think something is important.

Rob

Thanks for posting that, Rob. I guess I had glanced at the other thread but didn't realize it was also called digoxen so your thread title caught my attention.

Hi Susan,

I am not sure if this applies to both drug names. For sure DIGITEK is recalled.

You may want to check with your doctor.

Anyone else have any clarification?

Rob

MY COUSIN got the same notice that Rob got. He called me right away to warn me (but don't take it).

It is very interesting that digoxin has been around for many, many years and they are just now deciding that it's bad medicine???

I take the name brand Lanoxin. Is it also in this recall? I haven't heard anything.
Hensylee, what did you mean by your remark that digoxin is considered to now be a bad medicine.
I realize that it is and I have some side effects but is there something new that I need to know about in relation to my lanoxin or if I ever take digoxin or digitek. I have taken those and both made me wind up in the hospital and the nearest they can figure is something in the binders and they just don't work as well with me as lanoxin. Anyway, just curious so that I can be ahead of the situation some.
Thanks.

The fact that it is being recalled speaks for itself. See Rob's post about Digitek (digoxin). I just have never heard anything bad about digoxin during all the years it has been on the market. How bad could it be if it's been around for so long?

Am I reading this correctly? It sounds to me like it's just a structural manufacturing error with this specific brand.

Hi,

It is my understanding that the generic brand "Digitek" is being recalled if it was manufactured / distrubuted by Actavis, Bertek, and UDL labels.

I do not believe this includes Digoxin or Lanoxin.

The reason for the recall is because of the possibility of some fo the pills having DOUBLE the dosage.!
