Before I start moaning again, I just want to thank you all for responding to my posts. It is soooooo nice to come here and chat to people that "GET IT" and have been there, done that ;)

Pre-op I struggled with low BP (ave 90/60 and irregular pulse). But I could understand that with a faulty valve the bloodflow through the heart and body was not sufficient.

Now, 4 weeks post-op, I still struggle with BP of 90/60 and my HR is on average 110 and that makes me feel weak and short of breath. I must say however that my pulse is regular and that is a wonderful change.

How can I improve my BP? I have tried adding more salt to diet, but that doesn't really make a huge difference.

have a great day :)

If your concerned at all check with your doctor.
I am pre op with an elevated BP (137/87 averaged) even on medication and a low HR of 46-69, yes and irregular.
Cant wait to see what this is like post surgery.

I don't have the luxury of just phoning Cardio whenever I have a question. His Secretary is like the "wall of Berlin" and he doesn't take calls and na way I can see him without an appointment.

Nope, I have to wait until the 12th to speak to him.

I have huge hassles with my Medical Aid... they are going through a bad patch and was decleared "insolvent" a few weeks ago! Don't even want to go to GP - I am afraid they are going to start treating me as a "private" patient!

Your bp isn't bad. Now if it goes lower then that, go to the ER and have them check it. I think it's all just part of getting back to normal.

I know medical delivery varies around the world, but it seems to me that a cardiologist who is not available in any way within weeks of surgery is no use to you. If you really can't get past his staff, you need to tell him that.

Here is a link to a reliable information source:

Maybe that will give you something to scream at his secretary to get her attention...

I wish you didn't have this difficulty heaped on top of your recovery.

I am almost 3 weeks out and my bp has been where you are or lower. I actually left the hospital (Mayo) with it going as low as 80/50. They didn't seem too concerned about it, they just kept asking me if my blood pressure always ran low...I said yes, but not that low. Anyway, there are times of the day when it is that low and times when it gets a little higher. It isn't causing me any problems and again, my Dr.s don't seem to be concerned about it either.

I am also almost 3 weeks out. My BP ran lower than that in the hospital. They did give me some blood to bring it up a little. Then it was running the same as yours except my heart rate was in the 80's. They said as long as I was not dizzy, they were not too concerned. What meds are you on? I believe that toprol lowers your bp, but is good for the heart, so they give it to you. How do you feel?
