Hey everyone. I got discharged yesterday from the Mayo and we drove to Minn. and spent the night in a hotel and got up this morning at 5 and flew home. It is so good to be back in my own bed! I am exhausted from this long process (surgery forward) and think I had really been kidding myself about how easy all this surgery stuff was the first time around and that it wouldn't be a big deal this time. My worst moment was still being intubated and vomiting at the same time while they also tried to suction me (they hadn't put in a GI tube). It was horrible. I spent 2 days in ICU and then moved. I had to keep my three chest tubes a total of 7 days because I was draining so much fluid. It was terribly cumbersome trying to get up and around because they separated each of those chest tubes into it's own vacuum becuase they were trying to figure out where all the fluid was coming from. Anyway, they turned off my pacers on Tuesday, tubes out Wed. and discharged on Thurs. My blood pressure is now very low 80/50's range and my pulse is in low 60's.I'm not sure what has made my pressure drop so low but I think it is making me feel even weaker and more tired.
On the good side, I really don't have any pain at all and am able to sleep comfortably in my own bed on my sides and even on my stomach once or twice.
So I know the routine now...rest, breathe, walk, eat and keep my fingers crossed for no post op problems.
There is no place like home.
