Hello Folks:

I am scheduled for AVR on April 21. I have known it was going to happen and now I am faced with the reality.

It seems there are many very nice people full of good advice and experience at this forum and I am very grateful to have found it.

Has anyone with a history of AVM's Atrial Venious Malformations undergone AVR?

I am curious as it is my understanding that there is a correlation between Aortic Stenosis and these odd arterial bleeders that occur in the gastrointestinal tract or for that matter can occur anywhere.

Due to having had an intestinal resection in early 2006 for a bad gastro bleed, the possibility of a bleed during or after AVR concerns me greatly.

I have opted and been clinically advised to avoid a mechanical valve due to the necessity of blood thinners. I am also worried that with the bovine pericardial valve I have selected that I will require blood thinners at least for a short time and the possibility that some of the smaller AVM's in my gastrointestinal tract could cause bleeding, a major bleed or a disaster!

I know that there is some research that AVM's might mediate themselves after AVR. I do not think they (the researchers) have figured out why the correlation exists.

Anyone with experience with this problem and/or any complications of their AVR in conjunction with AVM's would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to have a positive mental attitude but I guess I am really worried.

Thank you for listenting.

Kind Regards,

Clint

I made a mistake in my post. The AVM's are Arterial Venus Malformations

I made a mistake in my post. The AVM's are Arterial Venus Malformations

These malformations are small bunches of small arteries .

It is my first time chatting or trying to chat on one of these forums.

I hope that mabee some readers who have had intestinal tract problems might have had valve replacements.

Thank you,

Clint

Welcome, Clint!
I have no information or experience regarding AVM.
I do have a bovine valve, and although I was given Lovenox injections in the hospital, I was sent home without an anticoagulant.
There is a pretty significant risk of throwing a blood clot after surgery, but it decreases rapidly as each day passes.
I'll put your date on our calendar.

Clint, just wanted to wish you the very best of luck with your surgery, will be thinking of you, hope all goes well and welcome to the forum.

Thank you Mary for your Reply .

I hope you are doing well now with your valve.

I also thank Curtsmom for her well wishes.

I thought everyone went home after valve replacement surgey on some kind of blood thinner for at least a few weeks.

Kind Regards and hopeful that someone with a history of AVM's has had valve replacement!!

Kind Regards,

Clint
