Quick question...I am now on week 4 of wearing an event monitor. We are flying out today and I wonder if it is going to cause me problems going thru security? Should I just pack it?

Hi there. Lotti here from the UK.

If I were you I would treat it like I do my pacemaker. Tell security before you go through the metal detector archway and they should do you a quick hand search bypassing the detectors. Of course you could do a quick call to your hospital that fitted the monitor and ask them. I'm sure they've had people travel with these before. It seems a shame to pack it when it's meant to be monitoring you!
Hope you have a good trip.

If I were checking people out to board an airplane, even with my heart patient experience, there is no way I'd let anyone on a plane with wires taped all over them and a battery device attached to their waist!

Just my opinion  ... Travel safe and let us know how it goes.

I agree with Susan. How long are you supposed to wear it? Maybe if you call your cardio's office they may say they have gleaned enough info and you can remove it. I would not attempt to wear it on the plane or put it in your carryon. To put it in checked luggage risks loss of device and all the info it has gathered.

Have a safe trip.

Good point! It would be interesting to see if the airlines have any policy on this.

wires and stuff

wires and stuff

I used to have to wear a stim device for my bad back and it had wires and stuff just like your monitor and I was always able to show it to the security people and get through. I carried a doctors note, but never was asked for it.

In the last few weeks I have taken several flights with my "Tens" type unit. I do not wear it through security but put it with the case, batteries, electrodes, wires, unit, and manufactures info. plus my prescription all in the little plastic bin. I have never had the scanner slow down or anyone ask any questions at all.

I wouldn't let anyone through wearing wires either!
