Judith,
I want to wish your husband well as he prepares for replacement on Friday. He has a great surgeon and a wonderful facility, so I know he will do well.
I hope you will update us when you can.
God Bless and Godspeed

Judith:
Wishing your husband all the best for his surgery and recovery.

The last few days before surgery are difficult to navigate for the patients and loved ones alike. Remember to take care of yourself. You are so important at this trying time.

Best wishes

Yes, Tom is scheduled!

Yes, Tom is scheduled!

Hi Everyone,

And thanks for the good thoughts. We just now got back from a long consult at Stanford and Tom will have surgery this Friday with Dr. Craig Miller. He is really great and we feel so confident that he knows his stuff. We do preop on Thursday morning and then have to arrive at the hospital at 5am.

Dr. Miller is not sure Tom will need his aorta replaced, not sure his valve is bicuspid, but knows the valve has to go and will make a decision on the part of the aorta that measures 4.5cm when he is operating. The root looks good and healthy as does the rest of his aorta, and we spoke for a long time with Tom making the decision to go with a St. Jude mechanical valve. Also, Tom will have a maze procedure to attempt to repair his a-fib. Tom needs to have the AVR soon, he's at a critical level now, bordering on high risk. So Friday it is.

Everyone is right when they write about the calm that you feel once a decision has been made and the date approaches. Actually now that that has happened I expect that Tom will join the forum himself.

I hope all is well for all the pre/post surgery folks and everyone else and I look forward to catching up on the posts.

Judith
