I am going to join the weigh-in in 2008, but wondered about starting a new challenge - How much did you walk (or exercise) this week? I know for me that getting the weight off is hugely connected to getting the feet moving, and the motivation for that sucks big time ! Or, maybe it can just be incorporated into the weighing thread, as in :

I lost xx pounds, and walked yy miles (or minutes or whatever)??

So please vote whether it should be it's own thread weekly (I propose Monday mornings, it's the best day for me), be with Cooker's weigh-in or not exist at all !

Of course, other suggestions are welcome.

I think it's a great idea! Of course, we could still mention exercise in the weigh-in thread, but a separate exercise thread would help put more focus on exercise and provide motivation and ideas and encouragement.

A thread of its own would be handy, and Mondays would be good so we could include the week-end.

FYI: 30 min. of water walking is equivalent to walking for 2 hrs. on dry land. Plus you have the benefit of strengthening your core, which helps give you better balance and less chance of falling. With water walking one needs to also do something on dry land since water is non-weight bearing.

30 min. of walking (in or out of water) can be done in 10 min. increments 3 x a day with the same effect as walking 30 straight min. The main thing is to commit to doing it. I find it helps to view it as 30 min. of "me-time"; time I give myself to better my health.

I think monday is a great idea~a good beginning for things to be "thrown down" for the week. I'd like to join, but I'm a ceritfied aqua instructor and teach 6 hrs. weekly and have just signed up for teaching 3 more hours when the insturctor had to take leave of absence. It seems a bit unfair if I'm getting paid to work out, but I'd be happy to be a cheerleader and answer any questions if I know the answer and can back them up.

Yep, separate thread.

It would be another good public humiliation exercise...i've been trying to kick off morning walking or bike riding before work for about 4 weeks now.....all ive managed so far is to set my alarm 15 minutes earlier and hit the snooze button 3 extra times.....not sure if that qualifies as exercise

Posting 'Did nothing but thought about it' will be my first entry.

As long as you all keep it realistic and don't start having seperate threads for everything imaginable, I reckon it's ok.

Well its working already....after 5ish weeks of procrastinating and with the prospect of a lame first entry into the exercise thread i managed to drag my sorry ass out of bed this morning at 5:55 and go for a 25minute bike ride.

I hope this is the kick up the butt i need.

At Goal, but need to exercise

At Goal, but need to exercise

I'm at goal weight so the weight loss threads don't help me motivate much--besides, I have WW for that! ;)
But boy do I need motivation for exercise. My goal is working out 3 times per week, even though I have to start small in January because of my new ICD, plus my agility classes once I'm allowed all that jogging and arm waving. So, tonight I'm planning 10 minutes on the elliptical (no arms) and a few crunches, boo-boo permitting (I have permission for that).

My only concern with it being a thread of it?s own is that it may clog things up. But for people who do not need to lose weight (if there is such a thing:rolleyes: ) it would be a good way to keep them motivate. It?s your ball????I?ll play by your rules.

I'm a little confused about how we're going to post, and is today the the first day?
I managed to get to the gym three times last week, and averaged about 35 minutes each time on the treadmill.
I went today too, but I guess that will count on next Monday's?

This isn't meant negatively, but if I do post exercise progress, I will post it with my weight loss progress. I will be able to keep up with my own "stats" better that way. I don't mind reading two threads; my goodness I'm pretty good at reading multiple threads. I'm just not very good at keeping up with myself. Is that OK? :)

I notice that the poll closes January 3 --- the same day as the Iowa caucuses, hmmm :D --- so I guess if the consensus were to have a separate thread for exercise progress, it wouldn't start until next Monday. Doesn't appear to be an overwhelming mandate for it yet, though. (Of course, there doesn't seem to be one for any of the presidential candidates either. :D

Its kinda hard to decide...I can see the arguments for both choices...
Separate might work a little better as it wouldnt get lost in amongst all the gossip in the weight-loss throw-down,...and some of us only really want to get motivated/shamed into moving our ample behinds :p with any weight-loss being a little bonus benefit.
I am a fan of the 10000 steps challenge the heart associations promote and find a pedometer is a very useful tool.
