Hi All,

I just thought I would post and let you all know that I met with my new PCP day before yesterday and had a long talk about my heart and other health issues and I do feel as though I got alot accomplished as far as letting him know how frustrated I am at the cardiologists in this area, and how they have been steering me away from their practice, and Dr. Hussain agreed with me that it's because of all of my health issues, that they don't want to touch me let alone operate on me. Dr. Hussain has instructed me to go to Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital here in NH to see a cardiologist, Dr. Catherwood, as he is also a Pulmonary Hypertension Specialist as well.

Dr. Hussain told me that he is extremely concerned with my heart, not only for the Valve(s) Disease, but for the Diastolic Dysfunction and CHF that goes along with it.

I can honestly say that I feel really good about Dr. Hussain, as he takes the time to listen to me, he doesn't interrupt and lets me get in every bit of information, and this is really a blessing in my eyes because I feel that the more information he has, he can take care of me that much better.

So now, I am going in April to Dartmouth Hitchcock as Dr. Hussain feels that where it's a teaching hospital, they focus not only on the one issue (Heart) but everything around it that is either being affected , or may be contributing to the issue in itself. (I know this sounds confusing, but sometimes, I just don't communicate too well).

I just wanted to let yall know what I have encountered, and I certainly hope this means that things are headed in the right direction finally. :D :D :D Harrybaby:D :D :D

This is a positive post. He sounds as if he really paid attention to you, and will do his best to steer you in the right direction.

Harry,

I agree with Nancy ... definitely a positive post!

Good luck as you continue on this road :).

good stuff !

good stuff !

having a family physician (or primary care practitioner or general practitioneror whatever you want to call them) is so important, it just feels amazingly good when you get a good one - good for you ! Listening is such an important oart of their job, but I bet 90% of them just reach for the prescription pad as you walk in the door - that is not how mine works, but I have heard some stories ....

Glad to read this post, Harry and I hope that everything goes in a positive and helpful direction now!

I pray this is the one Harry. You've been shuffled around far too long and before long, it's going to be a crisis situation that they have too deal with. Why should anyone be forced to wait that long?

I hope this is "the guy" Harry. I can relate so well to the discouragement you feel from doctors who are dismissive or unconcerned with your concerns. Been there done that.

I cried when I met my cardiologist that saved my life. I had been "dismissed" by 4. But not after them doing a good job trying to kill me. "My guy" took a look at the list of meds they had tried on me and said "I'm surprised you could walk after all this?" I burst into tears - finally - someone who understood.

I wish you that same feeling of relief. It won't magically fix you, but it is good medicine to be in partnership with someone you know has your interests.

Harry, we've all heard how frustrated you are. I hope this is the answer and it can't be bad that you'll be going to a teaching hospital. Blessing......

...and I have found them to be extremely intensive when it comes taking care of someone. I also feel that after my kidney surgery, that they are NOT afraid to take on anything when it comes to keeping someone alive. I truly feel it will be worth the 2 hour drive each way to get the care that I need.

Thanks for all the continued support as I sure do need it about now...:D :D :D :D Hugs from Ole' Harrybaby:D

I just don't understand why doctor's do this......I mean, it is what they wanted to do in life, so it would seem to me that they have NO right to "Dismiss" any patient that looks to them for a cure. I am soooo sorry that you encountered this as well....we are most certainly not "guinea pigs" for these doctor's to experiment on.

I am sorry for rambling on, but, they need to know that it's OUR lives that they are messing with when they "Dismiss" us.   Harrybaby:eek:

Dr. Chan told me last week that even when it comes time to fix the heart valve, it would still be questionable because I have the "Diastolic Dysfunction" (Stiffening Heart) for which there is no cure for outside of a heart transplant. My dad technically needs a heart transplant now, but the doctors said that he would only be put on the "B" list because of his age and his other health problems (Diabetes).

I think that maybe Dr. Chan was trying to tell me that with all my health problems, "Why bother?"

And I concur with Nancy and Cort!
Sounds good, Harry!

Praying that this 'the one'....one that listens and seeks to do everything they are able to...may you also have comforst and peace of mind that you have a practitioner that has your best interests at heart (no pun intended!).

Take care Harry,

Yolanda
