Hubby is 6 ft....185 lbs...Same for many years. he eats all the time..(my good-home cooking):p .Has to have potatoes everynight..and those cookies before bedtime with coffee..Sad thing..He only weighs 11 lbs more than me.. He is not happy if he is not doing some type of hard work...Everyday..never complains about sore muscles, ect..I need a day off just after keeping the Grands for weekend.:( he is supporting me on my diet..Put the leftover chips/ect. on top shelf so I couldn't reach them.:D forgot to give them to kids after weekend on the lake....Bonnie

The hardest part for me is making it a life change rather than a diet. The most success I ever had was doing Protein Power, which is a low carb WOE by the Drs. Eades. I stuck to it for 3 years, didn't have cravings, didn't really feel denied. Until I got too cocky and thought that candy bar, or some brownies a few times a week wouldn't hurt. If it hadn't started the cravings again, it probably wouldn't have, but it just triggered those cravings.

I've tried to ask myself "What would I do if I was told that if I ever ate sugar again it would kill me." I'd probably not eat it at all. I can stick to a routine - I've taken warfarin every night for the last 16 years (almost), so why can't I keep the sweets out of my mind?

The humor here is medicine for me! I love the way everyone looks at their food war! Having to report my weight here is a good tool for me. I know that you all won't get mad at me, but if I gain - it's embarrassing! I know I've been busted. It's also what got me out from behind my computer a half hour ago, put aside the work and do my walking workout video!!!

Bon - My husband is 6'3" and weighs 185 too. He can eat and eat and eat and not worry it too much. If he gains a little - he just loses it again. It's not fair!!!!! He's a smokin' hottie (my daughter's 21 year old friends tell me so:eek: ) and he loves me no matter what, would still think I was sexy if I weighed 300 lbs, but part of my motivation is not having to test that for certain.

So my motivation-
1. Good health - keeping a fit body for a "mended heart"
2. Feeling good in my clothes
3. Having people ask my husband "Who's the babe?":D

My motivation is:
1. being able to walk into a store and find pants that fit.
2. health
3. and an overall feeling of well being.

I would still love my wife if she was 300 lbs??????.maybe not as often:D :p :D

I have seen where you have posted pictures on VR.Com..You look skinny..:) Why do you want to lose weight?....Yes, I have seen pictures of your Hubby , too..and he is a HOTTIE....Mine, too,..and he will be age 77 in Nov.:D 10 years older than me..People always say..I cannot believe John is that old..but never say anything about my age.:( ..Yes..if not for Cooker starting this thread. I would have never changed my life..style..FAST-FOOD...Now, I cannot stand even driving thru ..for John a double-cheeseburger..on a trip. makes me sick thinking of eating that stuff.. Just after 4 weeks.....so I continue to stay on track...........This is not a race..to see who loses the most in a week...but making life-changes:) Bonnie

I had a friend say once "I've only gained a pound a year since I've been married. The unfortunate thing is I've been married 35 years." That kind of sums it up for me. I'm at that stage right now that if I don't get a handle on things, the handles will continue to enlarge!! My weight is at the boundary for acceptable weight for someone my age and height. But I know that my ideal weight is about 10-15 pounds below that. Right now I have no room for error!! And I know I'll only continue to grow if I don't get busy.

Bonnie...that is a miracle!!!! I see a Big Mac on the side of a semi truck slobber and all over myself:eek: I love fast food and sugar......I am trying to turn this into a lifestyle change but so far I am on the edge ( no comment please):D This is hard. I did pretty well today until a client brought me some brownies. You guessed it. I ate three before I could even think about the consequenses..... But I am NOT giving up although I may have to hire someone to pose as me in February:D

I think what is important to notice after only 3 weeks is that most everyone is getting a grip on what healthy eating is all about....figuring out your patterns, weaknesses, and triggers.
COOKER, 3 brownies-------you better be walking alot tomorrow.:p

Cooker,

Expect another shipment of Krispy Kremes tomorrow. :D :D :D (Just kidding. Hang in there, brother. Celery with a little dab of peanut butter is better than a Big Mac. Really.)

Motives for going through this attempted change to healthy eating and exercise patterns?

1. To see my grandchildren grow up and start their own families and careers.

2. If I out-live my tissue valve, to be such a fit old man that a re-op (while no picnic) will be doable.

3. To be able to keep working because I never want to fully retire.

4. To be such a fit old man that chicks ask, "What movie did that guy star in? He's a hottie." ;) :)

I think the best thing in the world about this thread is seeing that I'm not alone when I mess up. Realizing that I'm not the only one who has a lapse in will power now and then helps me to not beat myself up quite as much. But it also helps me get back on track afterwards, because I don't want to give up!

Just a word of warning, I may not be able to post my weigh-in on Friday. We have movers coming tomorrow and there's no telling where the scale will be. I may take the scale in my car with me, but I'm not sure. Also, I don't know when we'll have Internet set up. Hubby was supposed to call, but still hasn't. Hopefully today! I think maybe I'll just post my weight tomorrow morning, just in case.

Hi Deb,

I took my chilluns and grandchilluns -- the whole gang -- to Olive Garden last week. I got the pork tenderloin. It was terrific, chocked with protein of course, and not too fat.

I took a quick peek today on scales (Hump Day):p before Fridays weigh-in..Did lose the 8 oz. I had gained since last Friday..:) and hope to post Friday that I am down some more ounces..putting me into the 5 lb weigh loss..:D I had run out of breakfast food. so went to grocery store today and bought..Jimmy Dean...D-lights...muffin made with whole grain, turkey egg white and cheese...1/3 fewer calories..1/2 less fat...:D Also more cottage cheese/fat free yogurt.......Salmon for dinner with veggies...Also read in woman's world magazine (love that mag)..that when you hit a pla teau..probably salt is the culprit.. have been using it on my tomatoes, boiled eggs, ect...so will watch that in the future..Still only exercise at my age is walking..Probably do a mile a day..Bonnie

# of bread sticks please?!?!?!:D

Bonnie, I'm so proud of you for giving up fast food. It is so much easier that when you get into the habit it is sooo hard to get out. And good for you on the daily walking too. Do you walk alone? I can't seem to get my @$$ in gear to walk alone, but I do have walking buddies two or three days a week and we walk an hour at a time.

Funny...I bought some of those Jimmy Dean Delites two days ago and I saw a commercial for them this morning. I haven't tried them yet. They are 5 points on Weight Watchers--the Canadian bacon ones are, anyway, that's what I bought.

I am still amazed..that Cooker started this thread 5 days ago..and we have had 577 views on it?Other than Bina ..just us dieters posting.. .I am becoming leery about posting so much info..for the world to know:D yes, I am over-weight...Age 67..What are you ..viewers?...If you are over-weight..please come and join us..:D .....Don't be shy..We are here for a great support...to lose this weight for our future health..:) Like, Bina ..that does not need to lose weight..Just post....to support us.:) We welcome and need much support.:D Bonnie

I think I'm the only one doing Weight Watchers, but there are some foods I think are delicious and an important part of any diet. Treats!:

Skinny Cow products -- the small "fudgcicles" are low in calories and nice and chocolately

Weight Watchers ice cream products - the large "fudgcicles" are as low calorie as the SC small, and the chocolate cookie bars (chocolate ice cream covered in Oreo cookie-like crumbs) are a little higher--also chocolatey and satisfying

There are also some very low calorie frozen treats from Popsicle

These items really help me to get through my dieting day. WW lets me have 24 points a day plus 35 weekly points I can spread around as I wish. These ice cream products are 1 or two points each, so if I have two a day I still manage to have healthful meals and something after (or in between) to quell the hunger pangs :) I'm using my weekly points on the weekend, so I can still enjoy a glass or few :)D ) of wine with hubby on Fridays and Saturdays and have a nice dinner out once (or even twice if I behave myself). I'm delighted with how manageable WW is for me. (I hope I don't have to "eat" my words come Friday--don't wanna waste the points!)
