hey guys,
well, I was thinking about this earlier in the week as I was watching my favorite movie in the whole entire world "the perfect storm" this movie is my go-to movie, especially when I dont feel well, but I just love it, no matter how many times I watch it. when I watch it I get this weird nostalgic feeling, and its one of the only movies that has ever made me emotional. pretty much when it feels like everything is going wrong I can put this movie in, and feel better about things. I cant really explain it beyond that, but its almost like I have a connection with the movie or something its so real, and so hard to explain. I dont think it has anything to do with my heart stuff, except that it has turned me introspective before and made me think about things.

~"comfort food"~
well, pretty self explanatory....I cant come up with just one though
so, my top 5, and reasons behind them are:

#1~my memere's Gallettes (homemade noodles in homemade gravy with chicken, and sometimes peas and carrots, sometimes over mashed potatoes, sometimes just eaten alone)~ this is the one thing that my memere has always made that I will always remember, it brings me back to 4 years old at her house, we spent alot of time there, and she made these ALOT I remember eating them after my second surgery right after getting back home, and alot when I wasnt feeling well. basically, the Epitome of comfort food.

#2~Scrambled eggs. first solid food I remember eating after surgery, first food I could comfortably eat after my nissen fundo last year, reminds me of my best hospital memory.

#3~macaroni and cheese of any kind I used to eat alot of it reminds me of being a kid, being at memere's, and kinds reminds me of the hospital, this includes pasta with butter and parmesan, memere used to make me those little angel hair nests with butter and parmesan, it was awesome, still is my first go-to when I am sick.

#4~Shepards pie reminds me of being at home, when I was young. we used to have it alot.

#5~pot roast, or roast whole chicken (I know, 2 different foods, but its pretty much the same, just different meat) I love the way the house smells when you cook these in the middle of the winter.

Soooo, what are yours? your comfort movie(s) and food(s) and the reasons why?

well, I gotta go get the rest of my groceries in, and make supper.

I love funny movies and comfort foods as you described. All the things that remind us of mother.

I loved Meet the Fokkers - daughter's son is meeting the Fokkers today, and tomorrow daughter and hubby get to meet them. They are way different types of parents - opposites! I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the elite meet with the non-elite.

Comfort food: Moussaka, chicken soup, hot chocolate, quiche, homemade meatloaf and scalloped potatoes. Don't eat them much anymore but I still smile to think of them.

Comfort movies (identified as ones I put on when I want to smile or feel better) - Camelot, Joe vs the Volcano, Cocoon, ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The Perfect Storm is a great movie. I didn't know much about it when we went to see it, just what I had read in the paper, but we took our kids to see it at the Alamo Drafthouse, where you get to eat real food while you watch the movie. I remember leaning over to my daughter during the movie and telling her "It's okay. The good guys always live." After the movie we talked about how people live on in the minds of those who knew and loved them. We watched it again recently on television and it was just as emotionally draining as when I saw it the first time - happy, sad, scared, etc.

My comfort movies - The Notebook and Sound of Music.

My comfort foods - Hmmmmm.......buttered popcorn because it reminds me of the good movies, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes or rice and brown gravy (made only by my mom), spinach dip because even the low-fat version is delicious, and of course....chocolate, preferably Hershey's with the little rectangles that you break it into. I could go on for a long time because I like food, but after that hot dog thread, I was really hungry, so I'm trying to behave.

Bina, Rocky Horror Picture Show is another one that brings back great memories. They showed it at midnight for several weekends in our theater when I was in high school and people dressed up, threw rice, squirted or splashed water, lit their lighters (imagine that now!) and had a great time. Then when I was in college, they showed it at the Dive-In Drive-In. Everyone got in the indoor pool and they showed movies on the wall. Both of those memories bring back the craziness of being young and virtually carefree.

It's showing soon at our Alamo Drafthouse. Do you want me to buy you a ticket?

Comfort food - hot-out-of-the-oven Toll House choc chip cookies and brownies (Geebee's brownie recipe to be specific!)

Comfort Movie - Sabrina (the one with Harrison Ford) and my new comfort movie - The Holiday. The Notebook is also good. My Dad was the spitting image of James Garner. So sometimes the movie makes me cry.

Lisa, that would be a blast....but Texas is a bit far. Too bad!

The Notebook is really good....and I just saw the Holiday, not very well done; quality actors but a really lamo script.
