I am chiming in late, too. This is an amazing surgery and thankfully your friend has a new life ahead. What modern medicine can do is truly awesome. I will pray for continued recovery for your dear friend and hope that you both have many years ahead to enjoy each other's company. Blessins.......

RCB:
You have two supporters in Arizona chiming in with best wishes for an easy and uneventful recovery. It is almost amazing what can be done today. May your friend continue to enjoy his world after this life-saving surgery.

Off the vent

Off the vent

I just talk to his wife Rose who has been with him the whole day. Pat is in a great deal of pain and they ordered an epidural but had to stop it when he lost BP. Every breathe he takes is painful, but he always manages to thank every person who come in the room for the gift they have given him. Tomorrow, he’ll try to sit up and eat. Thanks to you all.:)

Bob, I'm keeping up my prayers for Pat, as well as his wife. Is this type of pain normal with this particular transplant?

RCB,

Well it is like open heart surgery except when they open someone up they don't just cut the heart to get at the valve. The surgeon has to slowly separate the pulmonary veins from the heart and proceed to separate the entire lungs from the chest cavity. It is like skinning an animal from the inside, out. Then the donor lungs are forced in to the space. A lot of tissue and nerves are cut. Then the entire surface of the lung begin to flex back and forth against the newly separated surface. Yeah, It would be my guess that because the damaged surface area alone is probable it least 20 greater then OHS, the pain would be much greater.

I'm sorry that Pat.........

I'm sorry that Pat.........

is in so much pain, but glad to hear that he is making progress. Losing that vent is definite progress in my book. Keep us posted and we will keep praying. Hugs. J.

Pat is Home!

Pat is Home!

Pat is resting at home today after a fast heart beat delayed his leaving the hospital. He walked 800 steps and climbed up a flight of stairs without the aid of O2 for the first time in a long time. He is still weak and can?t talk much, but the little we did talk was a treasure to my ears! Thank you all for caring.:)

Wonderful news. Thanks for letting us be a small part of his recovery.
