Just a quicky guys, I seem to be comming down with the common cold, feeling a little lousy, runny nose, sinus pressure, headache etc.

Just wondering what affect this tends to have on INR if at all, does it go high or go low?

Have taken a few paracetamol over the past two days, i'm not very hungry but have ate anyway to keep things consistent.

My INR over the past month has been 2.3, 2.3, 2.7, 2.6 and i'm on 5mg a day.

I realise everything and everyone is different, just interested in whether you test more regularly during an illness for a particular reason.

Cheers for any feedback.

A cold itself won't have any affect, but if you stop eating or eat much less of your normal diet, your INR will rise. Basically as long as you maintain your diet, even though you probably can't taste it, you should be ok.

Now if it comes to diarrhea or vomiting, that's a whole different story. You should test more frequently then since most of the good bacteria is going to be flushed, it's going to affect the INR greatly.

Hi Majic...havent seen you for awhile...

Dont be too hasty and go changing your dose if your INR is a little higher than expected this week either cos it will most likely go back to normal once you are well and then you would have to fiddle with it again. Must be about time you were allowed to test fortnightly now especially as you are pretty steady with your readings.

Hi Folks, It's been awhile since I've posted, but this goes right along with the common cold thread. I had a good head/sinus cold a few days ago. It's right in the sinus now and starting to see mucus come out now. The stuff I cough up is just the usual yellow color, but the stuff that I blow out the nose is yellow with some blood mixed in. Does this sound normal for a head cold while taking Warfarin?

Yes. Actually it sounds like infected sinuses. You feel ok otherwise?

snot nose stories

snot nose stories

when i first started taking coumadin and my level was just fine at 2.5 to 3.5 it seemed like my nose bled more than usual, and i would blow my nose and some blood wou come out on occasion -- but i think your body become accustomed to coumadin because this doen't happen anymore and i have no bruising at all and am pretty much getting back to normal on all fronts.

except i sure could use a good woman.

Yep, i'm an old hand at this thing now, INR is pretty stable, been between 2.2 and 2.9 for months now. I test about every 10 days at home and very rarely test in the lab, my arms just can't take it anymore...last lab test was over a month ago and it was 2.8.

I only ever back off/on 1mg at a time, i'm taking 5mg a day and i think thats a little too much but 4mg once a week is also too little....i take 5mg a day and then about once a fortnight i sometimes take one day of 4mg if i'm a little on the high side.

I was going to do the hello its been six months thing but i'm saving it for after my cardio visit in a months time...everythings going ace, if it wasn't for the ticking i'd never know anything had been done...

Its a great feeling isnt it? :D ...

So you ended up getting a home-tester did you?...If you dont mind, I am curious as to how much it costs for the unit and strips....and did you get a refund from your health insurance?
