Andrew continues to need our prayers. Shortly after my last update I got a call from the hospital saying Dr Backer his surgeon needed to talk to us. needless to say it wasn't reasuring news.

Andrew is in the OR as I type. They found a hematoma in his chest rightnext to his heart. They need to go back in and remove it. He has also had some real scary nuerologicalthings thatare being checked out. He complained of loss of sensation where he could not feel anything for several minutes- about 5 I guess. He could move his hands and feet but could not feel even pain in them.

Nuerology came and looked athim pretty quickly and he had some kind of staring spell where we could not "reach" him for a few minutes. these things all happened rather close to each other. They did an EEG pretty quickly I have not heard if that showed anything except that he was not having a seiser at that time. He has been complaining of bad pains in his feet for a number of weeks.

After surgery today he will have another cat scan of his head and his spine and also a MRI which I learned they can do inspite of his prosthetic valve. So pray for wisdom for all involved in diagnosing what is going on. It could be pretty serious. Possibly involving a clot in his spine or an anurism in a vessel. Mom and Dad need your prayers as well for strength for what ever lies ahead. Like I said it was a pretty scary morning.

Andrew was able to talk to us before he went into surgery and asked Pastor Floyd for a passage in II Peter. I can't remember the exact passage but he recognized he had asked for the wrong one when he asked for I Peter, so that was encouraging to me. He seemed pretty calm as he was wheeled in and i gave him a kiss.

So much going on today and I have so many here supporting us through it all. Praise God.

So sorry to read this Lyn- haven't stopped praying for Andrew and his Mom and Dad.

First of all Andrew will be in my thoughts and prayers, you and his family as well.

After many, many years of dealing with my husband's illnesses, and having endured many, many scary things, it is best not to project too far into the future for anything. Many things happen and most get resolved, if not completely, enough to go on with a good quality of life.
I won't tell you not to worry, but I will tell you that worrying is a complete waste of time. You would be better served to figure out what wonderful quality things you can do for Andrew that will help him get through this set of problems.

When things are looking dire, patients need to hear that they can get through it. They need to have lots and lots of encouragement. There were times when the only thing Joe had going for him was his fierce will to live. It served him well, and he recovered from some things that no one thought he would and went on to live years beyond it.

The human body is amazing. It really wants to keep on living. The human mind can do wonders in the process of healing.

Never let Andrew give up. You know what I say--Never give in and Never give up

When your heart is breaking, you put on your best outfit, go into that room and have a wonderful smile on your face. You can cry in private.

Scott and I are both thinking, praying and believing that even though the situation is oppressive there will be a constant light shining from all of us in your direction. We are sending the most positive energy headed directly towards Andrew, Wendy and Dad.

Hi, this is Dad. Andrew came through the surgery very well. He is going to have a MRI tomorrow at 6:30am. And a cat scan later in the day. He has not has any more issuse like he had earlier. wendy will tell yoyu all more later.
 
We can't get Andrew out of our thoughts. We thank you so very much for an update. Hope all continues to be smoother.

Andrew is still having his MRI done. He was schedueled for 6:30 but the MRI pepeole were being very cautious, as they should, making sure all his extra pieces were compatable with the machine.

It was a long walk to the imaging area down in the sub- basement. He did well though we had to stop and suction him and bag him as soon as we got off the elevator because he was having a little trouble with the vent. Nothing new with him is it?

I had an update a few minutes ago and he was doing very well and was able to make his needs known and seems to be very comfortable. It is suppose to take an hour and a half just for the imaging part.

We really want to take him directly from the MRI to the CAT scan without stopping back at his bed, so if they can coordinate that it will be even longer before he is back in his room.

He seems to be doing very well and has been moving his legs and hands. He is ready for that vent to come off- mentally at least. I think once the tests are done they will continue to wean him off and hopefully for good.

Pray that he needs no further surgeries. Pray also that nothing is found on these tests but if there is something that it can be helped one way or another. I really don't want him to have back surgery though.

Andrew is in good spirits and has a sense of humor. He said he needed a break from the vent- cause we would sometimes let him take a break from the bi pap machine. I said you can't take a break from the ventilator- we're you just kidding? And he smiled and nodded. Such a nut!

By the way they removed a softball sized hematoma from near his heart. They didn't see where the bleeding had come from so all are hoping it has sealed off. We really don't need to go back in there again. He has had a lot of PVC's even for him but so far no one is too excited about it.

Dr Backer was able to just open the lower part of his chest and do the surgery so that was good. He has one of his chest tubes back in and three smaller tubes for drainage in there. He is pretty comfortable. He settled down after he had each thing on his chest explained to him.

Well this is long but a lot has been happening. Continue your prayers and I will try to let you know any new news we here.

Randy just came in and told me that they have decided to not do a cat scan of his brain but just do an MRI of it while they are in there. No report yet on anything. We are not to expect him to be done until after noon.

Still a ways to go, but I see some positive things in your post. I will keep praying, that slowly and surely he will start to finally heal.
