Andrew is holding steady. He will be on the paralytic drug at least over night, possibly longer. His surgery was probbaly the best he has had with the time on the heart/lung and his restrt going easy, no shocks or anything needed. He was in sinus rhythm and just struggled a little with pressures and oxygen sats. They are watching him closely but everyone is walking with a little lighter step.

Thanks for all your kind support and heart felt prayers,
Wendy

Wendy, we are so pleased to see that Andrew is doing well, even though I'm sure you are still very guarded. But we are glad to read that the surgery went well. It was nice to breath deeply after reading your Carepage post.

Andrew and the rest of your family, remain in my prayers.

Thanks for the update, Wendy. Hoping for the best and smoothest recovery possible for Andrew. Take care.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post, Wendy. We are all greatly relieved for all of you and will keep praying for a boring recovery for Andrew.

Just so you don't worry. Andrew is doing well. The next 24 hours are critical but from my end things look good.

Continue to hold him in your prayers. He is totally sedated and on a parallitic drug and will be for at least through tonight. his rash looks a little worse in some places and much improved in others so we are hoping and thinking it will just resolve itself. He is on hydrocortizone IV for it right now.

He looks comfortable and his wounds look good- as far as that goes. 8-} The cath to his crrt may be clotting again so extra prayers that that can be easily resolved would be good.

Since he had his infection cleaned out we need to be watchful for the bacteria to be floating around looking for places to make itself at home. He of course is continuing his current antibiotic regime and his cultures are being tested again to make sure we are on the right course of antibiotics. His blood cultures have been negative since we arrived on Thursday but the vegitations are gram positive and are being further tested.

So I hope that explains things as far as the infectious part goes.We seem to be on the right tract.

Randy has been staying since surgery and will probably remain for at least the next couple days. Our friends continue to be so supportive both with their prayers and with their gifts and visits. I feel so undeserving to have so much love poured out on me. Just knowing how you hurt with us and love us means more than the world to me. I know many of you would lay down your lives for Andrew and for our family.

So if all continues to hold steady I probably won't have much to update but I know that you will continue to care and to keep us in your prayers. If only you could have seen us yesterday. God gave us such peace. We were laughing and visiting and pretty relaxed through much of the day. Every time I was given good news I almost could not believe it. Andrew? He never does things like that. It must have been the LORD.

Keep praying,
Wendy

Wendy,

Hello,
so sorry to have missed an update yesterday. We just let the time get away from us and I was just going to say that Andrew was doing well and would most likely get his ET (breathing tube out today.

Well he did get it out today but not exactly as planned. Andrew had been doing pretty good this morning but his breathing was a little more labored. i was a little concerned and evenwas sharing the story of Andrew's problem with his last ET tube, how it had closed off and it took two arrests before the problem was figured out. I mean it was scoped and everything but nothing indicated that that was what was happening. I was really not thinking this was much of a likely thing to happen again since his pressures weren't set high on his respirator and he was just on pressure support. Well you may have guessed but it happened again but maybe because I was thinking about it or maybe because I had just shared this story with his nurse when she could not vent him when we tried to suction him again oer his request, she immmediately extubated him and he started breathing easier. Whoo! The nurse sounded the alarm and we were surrounded with help in no time. He only needed a little oxygen support and to let him calm down a tiny bit. That had to be scary.

I am just so thankful to my God for bringing these things to my mind and making me aware and prompting me to share it with Andrew's current nurse, Carrie.I am also grateful that Carrie acted promptly and made that decision to pull that tube.

Andrew is on c-pap which is a mask respitory support system just to make sure he is ready to be off the ventilator. I think he is doing just fine.

Andrew also had some visitors from his highschool and our college, Kean, Tim R, Jessica W and her sister Stephanie. They were so sweet and brought some gifts from the highschool which they got to give to Andrew. He is reall excited both to have had company and for the really neat gifts. They got him a PSP and some games, a memory card with some music, and other paraphenalia to go along with it. what a generous and thoughtful group of kids. They even thought of his brothers and Randy and I and gave generous gifts to us.Once again I am so awed by the faithfulness of our friends.

Continue to pray for Andrew. He was suppose to get his chest tubes out today but we are waiting another because of coag numbers not being where we want them. He has had some things removed which makes him a little more comfy but has a lot of stuff still on him. Pray for his kidneys to awaken.

Thanks for everything and for each of your prayers. It is the only way we could be this far.

Big heart hugs,
wendy

Andrew has had a really good day. He is off the pap machine and is breathing on his own and his oxygen sats are real good. He had all his chest tubes removed and was such a trooper that he held his breath like they asked him to and was waiting for them to say he could breathe again when I noticed he was still holding it. He did awesome and didn't even complain.

He got his first drink of water which he was so excited about. He seems a little "dry" to me so I am glad he is now allowed to drink juice and soup and water. So far he has just had some water. You should have seen his eyes sparkle!

Andrew asked me to pray that he could take his medicine by mouth. They were considering putting his ng tube back in which is very painful and distressing for Andrew. They were going to wait for speech people to test his swallowing, but that would have meant waiting until Tuesday, so I really kind of pushed for a try. He did well and took his first medicine by mouth. We were pretty happy about that one.

This morning his CRRT clotted off again so it had to be restarted this morning and his blood pressure was pretty low first thing again but God and the fluids we gave back to him took care of that problem. He dropped alot of weight these last two days so I am hoping to get a little fluid back on him. Right now on the CRRT they are doing an even balance which means they take off the same amount of fluid that they put in from all sources.

Andrew had a couple of visitors today. Jane and Deidre and their boys Luke and Paul came to see him. That was a highlight I am sure for him.

Well it is time to go. Thank you for your continued prayers for all of us. Keep praying those kidneys wake up. They are producing a little and we are hopeful but the sooner the better.

Heart hugs,
Wendy

Thanks for posting the updates. Things seem to be moving along well and we will continue to pray for Andrew and the entire family.

Just stopped by to check in. Thank you for keeping everyone updated Lyn. Andrew is doing well but had a slight elevated temp before I left. Took a mommy break at the Ronald McDonald house.

He seems pretty comfortable and was sleeping. He still has his days and nights mixed up a bit and he is plain worn out.

I forgot to mention he has had an increasing whiteblood count but as of now we don't know from what. so far everything is testing negative for infection.

He has some vision issues which I will have opthamology consulted. One eye seems to drift a bit and he says it is more blurry than the other also has said some strange things about what he sees. Hopefully it is a temporary problem.

Thanks for your kind wishes and for your prayers.

Hi Wendy,
I am so touched by all of your posts about your son Andrew. Your faith in God and incredible love for your kids is just beautiful (and inspirational). We'll be holding your precious son Andrew in our prayers and pray that this long, tough road leads to full healing.
