Hello All,

I hope someone here can help me with some informaion. I had my tricuspid valve replaced in 2001 with a porcine valve. The porcine valve isn't holding up well and my bicuspid aortic vavle is becoming stenosed. Bottom line, both will need to be replaced with metal valves in 6 months to a year.

I can't find info on the web about this procedure. Has anyone out there had the aortic and tricuspid valves replaced at the same time? I'd like some information so I can ask intelligent questions when I see my adult congenital cardiologist in a couple of weeks. Web sites to check would be great!

Thanks!

Welcome JCB! You came to the right place for all sorts of support, information and have the benefit of people who share a common bond.

If you are planning on the valves being mechanical, you will want to start educating yourself about Coumadin usage. This thread will help you get started. http://valvereplacement.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17116

The first item in that thread is about our esteemed member Al Lodwick - he knows his stuff.

I think the biggest problem with mechanical valves is people in the medical profession who operate off old, outdated or just plain wrong information on Coumadin management. This is why you will want to familiarize yourself with warfarin (Coumadin) management. It's not rocket science. Many of us here do our own testing and dosing with great success.

If you feel comfortable - tell us a little about yourself.

Hi JCB, and welcome to the site; glad you found it. Have you looked in the Stories section also? You can find the Stories option on the VR.COM home page. There are some double valve experiences there, although I don't know if they're exactly similar to your needs. Hope you find the information you are looking for. Take care and please post again.

Welcome to the VR community. Glad you found us. You came to the right place for all sorts of information and support. I had a repair so can't offer any insight on double valve replacement, but I know others have had experience and I'm sure they'll come along. Glad you joined.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks to all who responded. I will check out the links and sites you suggested. It's a big help to have some places to start. Hope you are all doing well.

JCB - I have no double valve experience to share but I do want to welcome you.

Aortic and Mitral Valve Replacements

Aortic and Mitral Valve Replacements

I'm not sure how this might apply to your case, but I had Aortic and Mitral valves replaced with St. Jude mechanical valves in 1993 at age 63. I don't see the recovery being much different, whether one valve or two. Of course, with mechanical valves comes Coumadin, but that has not really been much of a problem for me. Cuts and scrapes will bleed freely. I had a small vein in my nose cauterized to do away with pesky nosebleeds. Otherwise, it is life as usual, just expect more bruises to appear that usually can't be explained.

I've not had my tricuspid valve worked on; however I did have the Ross Procedure which entails a new pulmonic valve and moving the old pulmonic to the aortic position. So yes, basically a double replacement.

Welcome. And ask away.

My husband had two valves replaced with mechanical valves, aortic and mitral about 5-1/2 years ago. His tricuspid valve was repaired this past February. He is doing really, really well. Felt better than presurgery, about 6 weeks post surgery. This time.

The doctors are good......very good. Best wishes.
