Just wanted to share..we lost our first young man..Sgt. Jason Hawkins..in a roadside bombing in Iraq........Age 25..in our small county here in North Ga. town......Today was his funeral.......The entire town turned out for it..We are the county seat..and all businesses were asked to line the roads from the church to the graveside..........50 motorcycles from the Patriotic Guard Army, ect....were there and many others.....All flags on business was flying at 1/2 staff........and the entire town..had our American Flags out in front of their business.I even saw several large red/white/blue arrangements in front of our large stores.(7 miles from here in our larger town)Like Ingles, banks, ect...Vets were going to pass out 1,000 small flags to wave when he came by....We were in grocery store and they announced that the store would be closed for 1 hour....when he came by from church.to cemetary.........They could have lost some business. .but why I love living here....We love our kids...and was so sad to hear about him..Great kid..Great family....So sad..but so proud of our county...to come out and bid him this great Farewell.....Bonnie

it is so sad to know our children are dying. Timmy was in Iraq two months only from March 18 and died May 18. Yours sounds like an exact replica of Timmy's. I am so sorry for these families, but I think many of us will see this same parade of sadness in our towns.

I think it is wonderful that so many are touched and honor our children when they get home and actually come out of their homes and stores to show the honor they feel, with hands over hearts on the roadside.

I grieve for the families and friends every time I hear about one of them.

Maybe when we know of one we can mention it here in VR just to remind us that they lived and need to be honored.

Bless them all.......

I'm sorry for both of your losses.............

I'm sorry for both of your losses.............

It seems that everyone has been touched by this dang war that we are no longer officially classifying as a "war." ONe of the old battalions in my old brigade (TXARNG) just got the word a few weeks ago that they are going back again in June. The uncle of one of Katie's little classmates was killed a couple of weeks ago. Her class is making goodie boxes to send to the troops in his company in his honor. And, Bonnie, the description of Jason's funeral is so poignant. What a tibute! That is what is truly wonderful about living in a small town. Hugs. J.

Bonnie & Ann, I am sorry for your towns to have such a loss and think it is so wonderful how everyone honored your heroes.
One of my heart Moms that I am pretty close to, emailed me the other day to ask for prayers for her BIL. He is fine, but his base is the one w/ the 3 young men who are missing. His wife hadn't spoken to him as of yesterday, but she knows he is safe. She lives on the base in NY and I can't imagine what it must be like for all the families there. So please keep the missing guys, their friends that are working night and day searching for them and all their families at home worrying about them or grieving the men that were killed, in your prayers. It is so sad. Lyn

Bob and I talked about this when we went to the nursery this morning. You know how torn-up I am about this situation, but it helps when you read how supportive the community is.

One of the hardest things I did while John was home was to ask him specifically what he wanted in terms of burial in the event he didn't make it back--either this time or next.

My thoughts are with these families, and I'm glad Bonnie, that you and John were able to be there when they brought this young man home.
God Bless
