I'm convinced that my homograft is from a woman. Even though its been 15 months, I am still much more emotional and prone to tear up.

Robyn (my fiancee) thinks this is a great thing. She says I am much more open with my feelings now. The term she actually uses is that I am 'available' now in ways I wasn't before.

Personally, I think its a good thing as well.

Although I think the "official" medical stand is that we do not "get anything" from donor tissue, there are many examples that would indicate otherwise. Whole heart recipients often feel there is a change that happens with their new hearts. Often traits can be attributed to the donor when research is able to be done with family members. There is an interesting book called "Change of Heart" that deals with this very topic (can't remember the author but there are 2 books with that title so, if you look for it, look for the synopsis regarding emotional changes after heart transplant). So I would think the changes you notice could very well have to do with your donor.

Can't say I am changed.
I am the same as before surgery.
The sun still rises in the east and sets in the west.
This may be an Aussie outlook.

More emotional since surgery? You bet. What usually sets it off is a sad news story or a sad scene from a movie.

I certainly think that if you've had a brush with mortality early in life you do become more attuned emotionally to others facing similar situations.
