Attn: Ross

This mail may come to you as a surprise but I plead with you to patiently read through it before making a decision whether to assist me or not.

I am Mr. John Cole, I work with a Reputable Bank in Brikama the Republic of Gambia. I am the personal Account Relation officer to Mr. Mark Young ,a national of your country, who is an oil consultant / contractor with the Gambian oil Corporation. On the 3rd of January 2001 my customer made a numbered time (Fixed) Deposit for Twelve Calendar months, valued at US$6,500,000.00 (Six Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) in my branch.
Unfortunately, on Friday, 14 January, 2001, 14:22 GMT, Mr. Mark, wife and their only daughter perished in an auto crash along Banjul express road on there way back to their home in Brikama. All occupants in the vehicle unfortunately lost their lives, may the soul of those who lost their lives and families rest in peace, Amen.

Since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my customer extended relatives this has also proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, to locate any member of his family hence I contacted you. I am contacting you to assist in repatriating the US$6,500,000.00 (Six Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) left behind by our late customer before they get confiscated or declared unserviceable by my bank where this huge deposit were lodged.

Particularly, The investigation Department of my bank where the deceased had an account valued US$6,500,000.00 (Six Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars).Have issued me a notice as his account officer to provide the next of kin or have the account confiscated within the next ten official working days. Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives for over 6 years now, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased since you are a foreigner and also have the same last name with Mark, so that the proceeds of this account valued at $6.5 million dollars can be paid to you then you and I can share the money.50% to me and 50% to you.

I have all necessary documents that can be used to back up any claim we may make. This money (US$6,500,000.00) is still lying in my Bank and the interest is being rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each year. No one will ever come forward to claim it. And according to Laws of Republic of Gambia, at the expiration of 6 years (Six) Years, the money will revert to the ownership of The Gambia Government as unclaimed deposit of a deceased customer. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law.

There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this transaction is intact with me, and my position as personal Account Relation officer to Late Mr. Mark guarantees the successful execution of this transaction. lf you are interested in giving the required assistance, kindly reply this mail stating your full name, address and telephone/Fax numbers for further action.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
John Cole.

Yeah right, from a yahoo account no less.

These scams are everywhere and some poor people have actually fallen for them.
Rich

I have 'won' so many lotteries this year with my very lucky email address having been selected, and also been chosen to assist people move their millions in exchange for vast sums of money that I am rivalling Bill Gates for income this year. ;)

One of the latest is to target people who have posted resumes on job sites. They send notices offering jobs running "Our new US office". I am sure there will be a special room in the hot place for scum like this.

Ross, I sure wish it were true, especially for you.

The past few weeks I have been getting phone calls where a recording tells me that I have won a fabulous trip....bla, bla, bla, so I just hang up.

After several of these, I said to hubby, "what if we really have won a trip and I keep hangin up on them?" He assured me that we are losers:D

I particularly hate these scams when they prey on older people. Can't tell you the amount of junk mail that my late father-in-law use to get and he was so amazed that they knew his name and was sure they were legitimate. I had to keep going on the internet and printing out proof that they were scams for him.

I would be a millionaire by know, i wish:D . i just stick to -if its to good to be true it probably is.

Are you saying they didn't pick the right man for the job?
If there were one thing legit about it, I'd be dancing in the streets naked and paying the Sheriffs Deputies trying to arrest me from doing so.

Ross, I think we are sposed to report these to police. Did you?

It isn't even written well. Can't people read between these lines?
No, it doesn't do any good to report it. There isn't a thing they can do about it because it's from another country.

What amuses me is that all these lawyers and other 'high flying' people are using email addresses such as yahoo. You would think they would be a bit more savvy than that and create a domain which is more authentic looking in order to receive emails.

True, but just look at how many people fall for the scam even with a yahoo address.
