I received a phone call from my surgeons office and they hinted that I'm very close to leaving the waiting room. He wants to have a "sit down" on Thursday the 26th. A recent CT showed my ascending anuerysm is now at 4.8cm x 4.6 cm (it must be oblong/egg shaped). I'll have another echo and then consultations with the cardiologist and the surgeon. I feel very fortunate because my surgeon is Dr. Patrick McCarthy of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He's considered one of the top surgeons in the country. Although I'm not thrilled about the procedure, the impending surgery no longer totally freaks me out as it once did... mainly because of my research and the postings of the people on this forum! Thanks to all of you!

We'll be watching and waiting, Bill. Have a good consult. It's good to hear that you are so confident in the surgery and the surgeon!

Bill-
I just had a 4.8 cm aneurysm fixed 3 weeks ago at John's Hopkins.I also had a mechanical valve installed and a hole in my heart sewed up.I was nervous going in but now can't believe how little pain I actually have from the surgery. You will do well in surgery.

Bill,

GOOD LUCK with your upcoming appointments/consultations.

Thoughts/prayers coming your way....

Thank you Bill it is very much appreciated, Lyn

We are all pulling for you that you can get these things fixed soon and on with the rest of your life.

Wishing you all the best.

I've just returned home from my consultation with Dr. Bonow (cardiologist) and Dr. MCarthy (surgeon) of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. My echo did indeed confirm the results of my recent CT scan. The "annie" has increased about .3cm in the past 5 months. Additionally, the valve was described as being a bit more "rusty". Surgery has been scheduled for May 18th. The reality of the event is a bit overwhelming, but I'm actually very calm. That's sure to change in a few weeks.....anyway, I can now get on with my life. Thanks to all, and I'll certainly keep you in the loop!

I put you on the calendar, Bill. You sound relieved to have a date and I'm sure all will go fine. Best wishes for an easy climb over the mountain!

I will keep you in my prayers, I think the calm from having a date is before that, you keep thinking of all tese things you have to take care of and plan for but you can't since you don't have a date, once you have that, You can take a deep breath and start working on getting things set up like work, ect.
Justin's surgeon had an ER today soo now we won't see him until May 10th, so I don't think you can be surgery buddies

Wishing you the best on your trip over the mountain, Bill. Try to keep that calm you feel now if you can. Waiting is the hardest part, thankfully that's nearly behind you now!

Take care,
Ruth
