I was rushed to the hospital, having symptoms of valve failure.

Today, at my second post-femoral artery angioplasty checkup, everything is still "beautiful," in my cardio's terms. I see him again in his beautiful new office (the old one was really cramped) in August for an echo of my artery.

But, just to update you all, Dr. V is taking me off Lipitor (yay!) and if I lose eight pounds, he'll re-evaluate my heart rhythm and see if I can reduce my Betapace dosage from 160 mg/daily to 80. I told him he needs to lose weight too, and he laughed. My "big fat Greek cardiologist" needs to lose at least 30 pounds himself. :p

We talked about heart surgery recovery, and I asked him the questions I posted a couple weeks ago. He says I need to relax more because I'm too high-strung. (Like that'll happen...). But at the end of our appointment, Dr. V shook my hand and told me it was great seeing me, and to call him or his NP if I ever need anything. Awesome!

Anyway, and this is a side note (and let me preface this by saying that I'm not worried, only curious)--I was looking at my chart while I waited for the cardio. I noticed that one of my reports from four years ago says that I have a mild tricuspid valve leak. My cardio never mentioned that to me. I wonder why he hasn't. I forgot to ask him about it as we talked today, but I'll have to try to remember it for my August appointment. If any of you have any observer insight into this, I'd like to know.

Thanks in advance,

Congrats on your anniversary and glad you're doing so well. Best of luck with the eight pound loss too.

"my big fat greek cardiologist"....funny!! (my cardio isn't greek, but he is big....last time he told me to lose weight he said, "I know. I need to too." "Fat heart doctor" is an oxymoron to me).

congratulations on your anniversary. May there be many many more.

On my last echocardiograph it mentioned there was mild pulmonic reguritation present but my Card never mentioned anything about it so I asked him and he said it's nothing to worry about. Apparently some leaking is common.

Congrats on the great report.

I don't expect you need to worry much about the mild leakage. Mine often go back and forth from trace to mild to trace to mild. If there is something their savvy patient needs to worry about, I think these guys all "know about us" now and they'll tell us!! :p

Keep up the good work. Stay mellow! ;)

Tricuspid leak

First of all, congratulations on the good report! About the mild tricuspid leak, I also have that and they didn't mention it to me. I just always make sure I get a copy of the echo report. Not only do they all say not to worry about it, I have read that probably 60% of the general population probably has a mild tricuspid leak and doesn't even know it! I don't know how they know that unless they have done random studies and have extrapolated from that.

I think that's great that you have the kind of relationship with your cardio where you can tell him that he too should lose weight!!
