Hi, Everybody! Kevin finally came home today! His INR was 1.7 this morning, which worried me. The surgeon said he's fine to go home, but we have to go to Carroll County Hospital tomorrow to have him tested again, followed by a nurse's home visit on Monday. Apparently, lots of people go home not in range, but it's odd.
The kids and I made a sign that read, "WELCOME HOME, DADDY." We had balloons in the living room. The kids were SO excited. Alexandra wanted to do everything she could to help her Daddy. Ryan kept bringing toys to Kevin. He tried to put his rubber frog on Kevin's chest (yikes!), and saying, "Here, Daddy. Make it feel better." Alexandra said Daddy's scar looked "red and swirly, like licorice." :) Then, at dinner, Ryan (29 months old) said, "Daddy, thank you for coming!":) Thank God for our kids!
I had a little surprise for him upstairs. On our bedroom door, there was a sign that read, "Welcome to the other side of the mountain, Kevin!" While he was in the hospital, I ordered and hung two really big posters of beautiful mountain landscapes (Banff and Grand Tetons...two places we love!) on the walls for him (Something pretty for him to look at while he recovers!). It was so nice to make him smile!
I hope the next post you read will be from him.
Take Care!!

Glad your husband is home!
My husband who had a mitral valve repair was released with INR 1.5.
Surgeon said to build it up at home. I was a bit worried since he had a bout of A-fib in the hospital but it had resolved on its own. Surgeon said since he was a repair no need to worry. My husband had to test 4 days later and it took quite a while to be in range.

Best wishes and speedy recovery!

Great news! Remind him that his only job for the next few weeks is to walk, sleep, eat and breathe. If he brought his incentive spirometer home, have him continue to do that. It really helps. If his INR stays low, make sure they are being aggressive enough in raising his dose. If you have any questions concerning this, don't hesitate to ask.

Wonderful news!

Welcome to this side of the mountain Kevin. Now rest, breathe, eat, walk, sleep, repeat.

What a wonderful homecoming!

Welcome home Kevin. Glad to hear you've had a safe trip to this side of the mountain. Now pace yourself and get well. Best wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Janene - I know you are really happy to have him home and whole again - it shows in your post. Makes you feel more secure, doesn't it. Tell him welcome home and just walk and breathe in his thingy they gave him. we look forward to hearing from him, too when he is up to it. Blessins........

Very nice to read your happy post. Hope the recovery goes very smoothly.

Kevin,
Glad to hear you are home. It sounds like you have a great support team around you! Good luck on a smooth recovery.

What a wonderful welcome home you and the children provided for Kevin. What a lucky man with such huge reason to devote himself to making a full recovery.

Hope his recovery is smooth and uneventful.

So happy for YOU that your family is all back together under one roof.

He knows he can't pick them up, but don't let him sit with the little ones on his lap for a few weeks, either. I don't know what it is, but they always seem to do a back head slam when they sit on your lap, right into your chest.

Glad he's home. It's the place to be.

Best wishes,

Janene: What a wonderful message, and what a beautiful, loving family you must be. I am very happy for you.

Kevin: Congratulations on coming home. I add my voice to the others who say to take it easy and go slow for awhile. This is a difficult recovery, and you do not want to do something to make it worse. Stay strong!!

Excellent news! Glad that Kevin is HOME!!!!

Thoughts/prayers continuing for a SUCCESSFUL recovery :).
