I'm concerned because I am 8 weeks post op and have not gotten my period yet. The last one started 1/9, yes, the day of my surgery. Good timing, eh? :p

I have an IUD and a loving husband (if you know what I mean). I should be protected from pregnancy. I'm tempted to go get on of those pee-on-a-stick thingys anyway. I have NO symptoms of pregnancy (been there twice already).

My mom didn't go into menopause until 51 and I'm only 47. Besides, that would be too coincidental.

Did any of you (not on the pill) skip a month or two after surgery?

Thank you in advance,
Ruth

Pee on a stick if it will set your mind at ease. :) But your body had it's entire system assaulted and it will take a while to get back in sync.

Eight weeks without?!? Sounds like a reason to celebrate!!! My experience was the opposite of yours though:eek:. And I can't believe I'm posting this:eek:  .

My experience was the opposite of yours as well. I had just finished my period when I had surgery, and a day or two after, I got it again. I then got it every 2 - 3 weeks with terrible PMS, and I am just starting to straighten out again. My surgery was 7 mos. ago. My surgeon's nurse told me to expect screwy cycles for awhile. I hope your's clears up soon, but I am sure it is due to the stress the surgery puts on your body.

The chance of being pregnant with an IUD is very minimal. But if you're spending any time worrying about it get a test.
Stress will affect your cycle. I've probably had about 3 periods in the 9 months since my son's surgery. I feel like I'm in menopause, but I'm only 41.

Mine was 3 weeks late. I use the pill and was getting very worried. Buy the test and get peace of mind. $10 is worth it.

My experience was the opposite of yours with my first OHS. My period came two weeks early. Can't remember what happened during my second OHS except that I did start while in the ICU and I had a male nurse at the time. No wonder I have very little modesty left.;) I'm sure it's just everything that's happened to your body because of the surgery, but I would do a pregnancy test to just set your mind at ease. I'm banking that it will turn out negative (not pregnant). LINDA

regular like a clock

regular like a clock

Unfortuanly I am regular like a clock....I was hoping I would miss mine for a few months but no such luck!!!

If you weren't having pre-menopausal symptoms before surgery then you will get back into your routine soon. Tell hubby to calm down;)

I am 48 and in menopause....doing the happy dance:)

Opposite as well. Had two surgeries in the space of three weeks. Both times my cycle arrived 2 days after surgery.Actually equated to 3 cycles in the space of 6 weeks. One every two weeks! Within the following month.... I was back on track. But sadly....never the same. I beleive this surgery places such a major assault on the body. Anything is possible.:(

Ruth. I am older, 53, and my periods changed their rhythm a few years ago. I did notice, however, that once I started taking Diovan for blood pressure, my periods ceased (except when my daughter would come home from college.....darn phenomes, or whatever!!) Since surgery, I've only had a dappling...and that was 2 months or so post op. Nothing since. Still on the Diovan.

Even tho there is no real concern with your IUD..... what are you waiting for!!!??? Buy the home test!! Peace of mind is always worth the nominal charge!!

Let us know!!

Marguerite

I am 42 and have skipped a couple of cycles since my surgery...but I cant get pregnant due to a Uterine Ablation years ago, so it doesnt worry me. If youre really concerned get the test done, if not wait patiently.

I just turn 50 and have started going through skipping my periods for a while.
After I had surgery I did'nt have one for 6 months. My body just went through a big ordeal so did'nt really worry about it. Just enjoyed it.;)

I know I shouldn't have even opened this thread

I know I shouldn't have even opened this thread

Okay so I shouldn't have even read this one let alone comment on it, but I felt the need totell you my wife's story. So many women think that their menopause will be like their mothers but that just isn't the case. You may be starting perimenopause and the surgery kicked it into gear. That is exactly how it happened with my wife. At 44 she just started being irregular when she had been very regular before. She refused to believe she was entering menopause, some friends suggested she may be in perimenopause. Then one day she dropped a bottle of syrup and it spilled all over the kitchen. She freaked out and started to cry and even kind of yelled at me when I tried to help. Now if you knew my wife you would be shocked. My wife is one of the nicest, calmest people I have ever known. Later that day I just said "I think you might want to reconsider that you may be in perimenopause," and suggested she go her OB. In light of her very uncharacteristic actions that day she went and found out from her OB that she was most certainly in perimenopause. She did choose to go on low dose pill for a year or so and now is off it and going to just power through it. So my suggestion is go see your OB. Okay you girls can go back to your little discussion now and I will go away. I'm embarrased!

Thanks ladies (and gentleman) for your stories.

I think I'll just enjoy the "time off" and consider it a benefit of surgery. Geez, I'm glad I didn't fall into the opposite category!

If I start to stress I'll go buy a stick, for now I think I'll just choose to relax and enjoy it. Just as long as I don't feel any kicks - lol.

Again, thanks, you folks are great.

I haven't had heart surgery, but I have had menopause! When my daughter was expecting our first grandchild I was 44. My husband had long ago had a vasectomy but I skipped my period and he was more freaked out than I was. His secretary had just had a baby after a failed vasectomy, so his thought was "If it happened to them, why couldn't it happen to us?" Anyway, I don't think over-the-counter tests were in vogue yet so I slunk into my ob/gyn's for a test, scared to death I'd see someone who knew me. Was I ever happy when the nurse gave me the all-clear!

I had a few other episodes of skipped periods for the next 4 yrs, then just abruptly stopped at age 48! No problems at all.

You are definitely old enough to skip periods, but with your recent surgery it could well be that. But for heaven's sake get the test and relax! If the test comes out positive we'll all be happy to weigh in on that too! ha!

Hmmm, menopause, stranger things could happen.

By the way, I was born when my mom was 46, one month from her 47'th birthday!
