Hi everyone, I have a cardio appointment in Dublin tomorrow. Its a very important day....Iv GOT to make it count.

I am going to ''power dress'' (as per advice given by some members a while back)....black trousers suit....and bring two copies of symptoms (advice given to me by NANCY..Iv actually written what Nancy said out into a pocket book and read it regularly).

Now, has anyone any thoughts on some key things that should be said...questions asked.....etc ?????? Anything that may have helped you at an appointment !!!!!!!

*I wasnt going to post about this, but then I thought ''its too important not to, and I know you guys would say....''thats why we are here''.....I hope !!!!! See what faith I have in you all.

My prayers and thoughts are with you. Let us know how things go for you. Keep us updated. Take Care.

Carrying Nancy's advice around in your pocket is the BEST thing you can do!:D Best wishes for a successful appointment and hurry back to let us know how you did.

You might try taking notes of everything the cardio says, and if you don't understand a bit of information that he's giving, ask him to please stop and explain it to you in terms you understand.

You can't get any better than advice from Nancy! She is the expert in handling medical professionals and appointments.

I would also say don't let the doctor rush you. As Mary said, ask questions if you don't understand, so don't let the doctor make you feel like his time is too precious to spend on lots of questions. If you feel the doctor is rushing you, tell him you came all the way to Dublin to see him and you appreciate him making the time to answer all your questions and concerns.

Power suit! Great idea!

I'll be thinking really good, assertive thoughts for you!

Hi Jacqui -

Don't make this mistake: I know that I've had a few medical experiences when I've finally made an appointment to see a doctor for some ongoing issue, and I've felt such relief at finally making the appointment that sometimes I've even thought that I feel better just being there.. and I'm sure it's because in the back of my mind I've thought, the doctor will make everything better.

That won't work, though. You must keep focused. Focus on the decline of your test results and the specific symptoms you are having. Think about what you want from this doctor. He can't read your mind so you may need to clearly express to him what you want. A referral for tests? A referral to a surgeon? Something else?

Karlynn makes a good point about not letting him rush you and you may need to tell him that you've traveled all that way to see him, etc.

Hope all goes well and travel safely. Post again!

This is an excellent point Jacqui. I did this many times over the years. Then I didn't end up giving the doctor as accurate a picture as I should have. This "false healing", for lack of better words, can also apply to any medication you might be given to help your symptoms. I'd have a new drug prescribed to help, and for a few days I was just sure it was working, even though I knew I didn't feel better. It can also apply to having tests done. Sometimes the simple fact that a doctor has ordered a test can cause you to think you are feeling better. These things do spring out of the hope that something will be done to make us feel better. And we are praying that you will find concrete solutions to make you feel better.

Hi Jacqui.

Hope all goes well tomorrow, I don't really have any great advice just wanted you to know I am thinking of you!

Much Love

Karen

Why, oh why, is this so hard for us. Medical professionals need to do a better job of treating women and children (sorry guys, this is the only perspective I have). I am not timid at all - I am CEO of an off-road company. I've been in male dominated fields my whole life. Yet, when my son was sick, I believed the doctors when they reassured me that is wasn't his heart. I let them beat me down and didn't demand the tests that I wanted for him.
Jacqui, you have to stand up for yourself. Most doctors won't do it for you. Have a plan. Rehearse it. Don't let him leave the room till you get answers. The clothes are a great idea.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Jacqui:

You're already one step ahead by following Nancy's advice.

Might also be good to keep Nancy in mind and ask what she would do/say during the appointment.

I'm having to do that with my husband, John, and his appointments, test results, etc.

Im ready.....i think

Im ready.....i think

Well guys....Iv read...and re-read every reply. Iv made out a list of my symptoms...(we might be there some time, hehe)..Im taking 2 copies with me....my clothes are laid out and ready..My hair is straightened...I have curly hair and it seems ''they'' have done a survey and curly haired people are not taken ''as'' seriously as straight haired people.....WHO KNEW......(the only thing Im missing is someone to come with me but hey, I will have Nancy's calming voice in my head) *Isnt it weird that I heard Nancy's voice yet Iv only read her words....sorry Nancy Im talking about you as if your not here, please dont be offended...this is to you as much as it is about you.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND HELP.

don't let them walk out of the room until you have EVERY question answered!!

Hoping the day goes well for you.
