My pacemaker was replaced on Monday, February 12, 2007, a day before ACHA's Lobby Day in Washington DC, at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Since the location was switched from my abdomin to my left-side chest area [the original wires are blocked by scarring from the 2003 surgery, causing the old pacemaker/battery to work harder/longer], I stayed overnight. They put the new pacemaker in my chest ... and then decided to take me to the OR to remove the old pacemaker, since it was under the muscle tissue. Luckily, I do not remember waking up with the breathing tube down my throat this time.

I made it home safely, thanks to Mom and Dad, on Tuesday, despite Chicagoland's wintry weather. I've been sore/achy the last few days, keeping me from doing much.... I had a checkup at the hospital on Friday, February 16, during which the pacemaker and both wounds were checked, and I was given more instructions [when to return to driving...Monday, February 19; to work...Tuesday, February 20; and other activities].

My original pacemaker was installed during my last Open Heart surgery, January 2003. I was borderline needing it; we decided it best to install it so I didn't need another surgery within a few months. That was fine with me. A few weeks ago, however, I was home sick and noticed I wasn't feeling quite right. I called the Pacemaker Clinic ... and, during a phone check, discovered that the pacemaker was not reacting to the magnet; the battery was "dead".

So, with some lost time, money, vacation, etc. ... I'm back ... with an even weirder looking chest area...arg. I didn't say much at all about this prior to the surgery because I wasn't (and, in some ways, still am not) happy about it ... and didn't want to come across as too negative....

Now, I can concentrate on projects and road trips and other plans, including another radio show! I've been discussing the possibility of doing a radio show on WRMN this coming April (just like I did April 2006). I'll be meeting my WRMN contact in person on Monday, February 19, to figure out times/dates, etc., which I will announce as soon as I know ... stay tuned! I, of course, will also advise when I figure out road trip plans (need to determine where I'm going and when ... and what time I'll have available)....

So very happy to hear from you. Please make the rest of 2007 the best ever.

Looking forward to your radio show and maybe meeting up during the next road trip.

We all have weird looking chests so you fit in just fine with us.;) :D ;)

It's nice to have you back posting again:). Sorry about this difficult time for you. Take care.

So glad to see you are back and everything is OK.....about weird looking chests......how about one with a radical mastectomy and an open heart scar?  Don't worry about looks, beauty comes from inside and I'm sure in that area you are quite handsome

Glad to see you back, Cort and planning for all good things in the future!:D

sorry to hear about your dead batteries. We wouldn't know what to do without you so we are happy to know that you are all fixed up and in good slick order now. So glad to see you back with us. Bless your heart.......

Hey Cort!

I'm sorry that you had to have the pacemaker replaced, but I'm glad that you're back to perking along at 100%. Well, maybe not 100% yet, but you will be!:)
I can't wait to hear the details of the radio show, so please post them as soon as you are able.
Catch you later,
Mary

Hey Cort, welcome back! Glad your pacer is taken care of and you are getting back to 100 percent.

Please do let us know about the next radio show. I enjoyed it the last time I tuned in (or clicked in).... You do a great job with it.

Glad to see you back Cort. When the hounds show up that Ross sent out, just turn them back around.

So glad to see you posting.....we were waiting to hear from you!

So you've got some new scars, eh? So I guess your chest is beginning to resemble a road map of sorts??? and this surprises you? :p (this remark meant only in the greatest kindness!)

Wonderful that the radio thing continues to be a plus for you....you're a natural!

Best wishes! Marguerite

Yay! Glad to see you back!

FYI....my shoulder is still sore from pacemaker implant and I'm 3 weeks out. So, be careful :)

Welcome back

Welcome back

Hope this pacer lasts you a long time! I had my first implanted 3 weeks ago. I keep forgetting not to raise the left arm. I can't pick up my grandson for 3 more weeks. Can't wait until I can cuddle him again. The pain is pretty much gone now. Take it easy and baby that left side of your chest. I only had one scar from an old gallbladder operation until Augest of '05. Now I have 6 new scars from the heart surgery, implanted loop recorder that was just removed and the new pacer.
We are still perking along even though we are beginning to look like road maps.
Feel better.

A _huge_ THANK YOU to ALL of you ... appreciate all of the well wishes. Would love to respond to each and everyone personally, but that'd take me quite a long time ... so, a few direct replies....

Ah, yes, I know ... didn't say my "dislike" for the extra scars was rational ... he he!

That certainly would be great to meet up, again, Gina. Not sure how it is going to work out, though. I know the MC Nationals are just north of Cincy this year, but due to the pacemaker replacement, I'm not sure I'm going to get time off in June to go. If I do, I'll be sure to post/let ya know. Otherwise, we'll see what we can schedule ;).

Thank you, maka ... definitely appreciated. I know looks don't really matter ... but, well, aye....tough to describe the feelings :(.

I like that ... "in good slick order" ... he he! And, yes, you would know what to do without me ... LIVE LIVE LIVE!!!

Darn tootin' I will be ;). It's weird, tho, I _sound_ like I'm perking along at 100%, but my body and my pains vehemently disagree ... he he.

*chuckles*

I should use this as an advertisement when I get that post information together. Why? Because it HAS to be true if a Cardinals fan says this about a Cubs fan ;). He he.

Rob ... you KNOW I'm joking with you ... and you also know I couldn't resist that ;).

Seriously, tho, thank you very much ... appreciated!

OK ... will do. Haven't seen 'em yet. Maybe they turned around already?! ;)

Any chance that show will be broadcast over the 'net?

*grins*

It most certainly will be :). It was last time ... that's how many members were able to listen! I'm not sure, but I'd bet the posts I made of the song lists are still around the "Chat" forum somewhere ... if you're interested in digging a bit and looking for them. The last one would've been posted sometime around the end of April 2006.....

lynn and Joanne ... thanks for the heads-ups. My left collar bone muscle is VERY VERY sore. I can BARELY move. Somehow, they put the pacemaker almost right up next to it :(. I, too, keep forgetting to NOT lift the left arm too high. I mentioned that at my checkup on Friday and the pacemaker gal said not to worry too much about it.... She knows I wouldn't do that purposefully and she said "accidents do happen". Aye.

Again ... thank you all :).
