Having another colonoscopy/polypectomy on Friday, so started my Lovenox bridge yesterday (I stopped my Coumadin back on Sunday). Getting some nice bruises on the tummy already.

Starting the "prep" tonight - oh boy. Clear liquid diet until Sunday.

This is one of the few times when Coumadin is a bit inconvenient, but not too bad in the grand scheme of things.

Hi Mark,
I had my first colonoscopy 2 yrs ago and my dr said that I didn't need to stop my coumadin. He said that if he found anything that had to be removed I would then have to go off the coumadin for 3 days before the test. The test went well and no polyps were found so I never had to stop taking the coumadin (which is something that I am very fearful of doing). Did you ever inquire about having the test without going off coumadin?

It's a long story, but they already know that I have at least one pre-cancerous polyp that needs to come out, therefore I had to stop the Coumadin and do the Lovenox bridge. I get my INR checked tomorrow afternoon and my gastroenterologist wants it to be no higher than 1.9 before he does the procedure.

If you stopped the Coumadin last Sunday, your INR is going to 1.0 to 1.2 now.

I ended up having mine fully anticoagulated and one polyp removed. I don't know why he chose to do it like that, because we had discussed if something was found, that we'd do it again on a bridge, but he went ahead and got it. No bleeding whatsoever afterwards either.

As for your bruising, try applying an ice cube to the injection site just before getting the injection. Supposedly it works to keep the bruising down.

I feel sorry for ya. The liquid diet is a bummer and so is the pot!

Yikes but those Lovenox injections can really leave you all bruised up, can't they. Just wanted to wish you well with your procedure and send you sympathy for the lovely liquid diet and then the consequences of the meds that they give you. But, it has to be done. It will be over quickly.

Take care,

Just got back from the clinic - INR was 1.3, so I'm good to go tomorrow.

Getting realy sick of jello - going for some beef broth as my "last meal" tonight ;)

Mark,
Good luck with the surgery. It can't be any worse than the preparation.

Everything went to plan. Got the polyp and don't have to get checked again for three years.
Back on the Coumadin tonight and Lovenox for three more days. No heavy lifting or strenuous activity for a week (There goes my training schedule...:( )
At least got to eat something other than jello tonight!

Good, now you don't have to worry for a while.

I'm telling you, I was ready to hit any restaurant on the way home. After that liquid diet, food is a must have item.
