To the people who wished me sunshine and a day off, it was not to be.The weather would not cooperate. It was cold and wet. We also had two 4- day week in a row with the students. This past week, we had off Monday for Martin Luther King Day. The week before that the students had off Friday for Professional Development Day. Add DIBELS testing ( state mandated reading test) the past 2 weeks and I figured I had better go to work.

Besides, I think my anniversary is really today. Last year, on January 21st, which was a Saturday, I had just had breakfast and was sitting in bed talking to the doctor and my husband. The doctor was telling me that I would probably go home in a day or two when I said," I feel dizzy", and I was out like a light. I came to for a few seconds as they were putting a ganz catheter in my neck ...BIG OUCH  I had a ventricular standstill. The next thing I remember was waking up back in ICU, hurting like hell..not the kind of pain in any particular place but aching all over like a really really bad flu. It lasted all day but the next morning, I was back to normal except that my heart needed a temporary pacemaker to keep a regular beat. I sat in ICU for 4 days while these doctors debated whether I needed a permanent pacemaker or not. My surgeon kept holding off, saying," Give her heart a chance".. Finally, my heart went back in sinus rhythm on its own. Then I was there a few more days to get my INR up so I could go home.

A good thing I could read, otherwise I think I would have gone stir crazy.I was able to read from 2 days after surgery.

So maybe today is another birthday. After all even the Saints are doing something special...;)

Wow Praline -

your story sounds so much like mine - I had a temporary pacemaker put in because my heart was slow to start after surgery. Talk about scary! The stupid electrophysiologist came in and just "pulled the plug" on my pacemaker - I went flat line - the nurse came running in - I remember starting to fade (fast!) and the EP saw that and plugged me back in. After that I was terrified every time they tried to disconnect the external pacemaker and finally my cardio (smart man that he was) tricked me into talking about something else while he was slowly turning down the pacemaker and told me "the pacemaker is off." I couldn't believe it. They also were going to put in a permanent pacemaker, but decided to give my heart time to recover after the surgery. Thank goodness.

I can relate! Glad that you are feeling so well now. I pray you have many, many, many more good anniversaries such as this one.
