How far or how long do you walk? Do you walk each day?? Just wondering what everyone else is doing :)

We are up to 1.5 miles a day (I'm almost 8 weeks out of surgery), once I get back to work though I won't be able to do it daily. My 16 year old really is enjoying walking with me, he goes to community college classes so his schedule is not like regular high school. He's loving that!

Lynn,

I try to walk at least 2 miles per day. Since I don't have the time to do it all at once, I wear a pedometer to keep track. I park far from my office building (unless it is bad weather or too cold for me to breathe well) and get in a 1/4 mile that way. I also walk around the office every couple of hours especially after lunch. I also try to walk around the block a couple of times once I get home.

Even broken up - a couple of miles a day is still very helpful.

I am working my way up to the 10,000 steps per day that the heart-foundation recommends...
At present I go out walking at least 5 days a week for 45 minutes including 5 minutes warm-up and cool-down. This gets me to about 5,500 steps...now if only I could remember to wear the pedometer allday as Gina does I might see how close I get to the 10,000.
I am just a bit jealous that you got your son to come with you...I had to pay our boys to come along and even then they dragged their heels  .ratbags!.

I don't intentionally 'walk' for walkings sake.

I play with a 4 year old in the street, go shopping and am generally active.

I'm 8 or 9 weeks post op and about to start cycling 3-4 times a week, walking sucks wind...:D

Your doing awesome Lynn for only 8 weeks out! Far better than I at that point. Keep at it and enjoy the time with your son. They grow up so fast. :)

I am two-weeks post-op and I have been pushing myself to walk at least twice daily, strive for three times, for one hour each. It took me a couple of days to build up to an hour, but now it isn't so difficult. In addition, I do take a lot of naps, sometimes up to two-hour, after my walks, because it can be tiring. My cardio, at UCLA, keeps telling me to work the heart out like a muscle, just keep you heart rate within the limits and listen to your body.
