I was curious as to how much snow we had - as you can see there are a few different totals for Estes Park - different parts of town - maybe that are higher in elevation, get more snow than others. I also did not know what thundersnow was exactly - but had an idea - we also had that in Iowa a few times and my Dad would always say to count 100 days from the time you heard the thunder in a snowstorm and there would be a really big storm - he told us that was an old Indian sign. ;) My Dad was quite the character.

Anyway, here is the link for the site that gives the snow totals for Colorado as of 7 p.m. Below that is a site where you can read about thundersnow. I think you may have to copy and paste the second URL regarding thundersnow into your browser.

P.S. The Denver area and the plains are getting the least snow right now - it is the foothills and eastern mountains, which is where Estes Park is, that are getting the most snow.

I second what Wayne said. Things are upside down. When I first moved up to Montreal, there was snow on the ground from about mid November to mid April.

In New England, thunder heard during a snowstorm is a sign of a blizzard.

Unfortunately, we didn't have snow for Christmas here in NJ, and we won't have any snow for New Year's.

Best wishes,

Christina-

I just learned of thurder snow this year as well. We had a storm in Chicago about 3 weeks ago that produced 10-18 inches depending upon location. When it thunderss during a snow storm....it tends to produce more accumulation.

As for the moment, here in Summit County CO....did not get much. 3 inches at the most! We are off to hit the slopes.:D
