I believe yall are going to have a White Xmas.:D Dave, christinaL, Al and Rain..Are you snowed in? SO much snow today..Wow..Bonnie

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! :D :D 15 inches of snow so far and another 15 - 20 inches of snow predicted here in Boulder. Glad to be working from home, my final exam got canceled, I have a bottle of wine and a fire in the wood stove. My snowshoes are outside, waiting for a tromp through the snow tomorrow. What a lovely day.

Baby, its cold outside. . .

We have about 20" on the ground with 3' - 4' drifts in the yard.
I finally got to use my snowblower this year!:D We sure need the moisture.
They say it will let up about noon tomorrow.

Melissa

forgot about you..:D Sounds lovely..Wish I could be there.:p Have a friend ,tho, that was suppose to fly out tomorrow..for Denver for Xmas with her son..in Golden. Just heard the Denver airport is closed....Bet it will be hectic for people leaving/coming for a few days. ....I'm sure the airport has snow plows.. to get the runways cleared soon.:) Bonnie

Snow?

Snow?

Snow? Do WE have snow??!!! ;) :D

Melissa, I believe Boulder may have a bit more snow than us, but not much more. This blizzard does not yet reach the proportions of the one we had 3-4years ago (in the springtime) but it may get there yet!

Guess the snow is supposed to last through tomorrow noon and DIA is closed through tomorrow afternoon. Bonnie, your friend may not be flying anywhere tomorrow!!

It is lovely, but ya know, Bonnie, sometimes I yearn to be a Southern Belle (like you!), sitting on the veranda, drinking a mint julep, and having summer 10months out of the year, instead of 3 (which is about all we get up here high in the Rockies). :(

If I think about it, will get out there tomorrow with my camera and get some pictures and post them. They closed our office early today and are talking like we may have the office closed all day tomorrow, so I will need something to do!

Melissa have fun tomorrow snoeshowing through the streets of Boulder. Will be beautiful! Hope you take Aimee with you -- and I hope that Aimee is snuggled up with you by that woodstove! :)

Hmph. Ya'll are lucky, I'd say.

Chicagoland (from all reports I've seen) will NOT have a White Christmas this year :(. Ah, well ... we've been lucky the last few years, with at least a "dusting" of snow on Christmas Eve ... which has made for a magical night.

Enjoy your snow :).

Hope DIA does not close for long! More concerned about the possibility of avalanche! We hear there have been warnings released. Good skiing conditions nonetheless! Can't wait!

It's still snowing!!!!!

It's still snowing!!!!!

Just to clarify - I heard on TV that DIA would be closed through tomorrow noon, but unsure if this is still true - if it is still snowing down there on the plains - it was supposed to snow through noon tomorrow.

Gina - which ski area are you going to stay at? I know that Summit County may not be getting quite as much snow as the Front Range and eastern mountains. Not sure about this. Know they are getting some snow and yes, you will have fantastic skiing!! Have a great time. I am not a downhiller and when I first moved to Colorado, I thought ALL Coloradoans had to downhill ski. NOT!!! I am more into nordic skiing. I'm just too big of a chicken (afraid of tearing a patellar tendon or dislocating a shoulder...just minor fears - ha) to downhill although I broke a wrist in my early 30s at the Frisco Nordic Center - just standing there and I fell over and crunched my wrist.

Cort - you are right - I can't complain - the snow is beautiful and we will most definitely have a white Christmas, although I like the snow now before Christmas - really puts us in a Christmas state of mind. :)

HOWEVER, as soon as Christmas is over, NO MORE SNOW until the next holiday season. :D I kid you all not - Memorial Day Weekend is a prime weekend for snow here in the Rockies. Winters go on forever....

BUT, it IS beautiful. The outdoor Christmas lights with snow on them is a magical sight.

copied this from DIA's web site updated just a few minutes ago:

AIRPORT
Based on current weather forecasts, Denver International Airport will remain closed until tomorrow evening and flights have been suspended until further notice.

Please do not come out to DIA tomorrow morning. The current weather forecast calls for areas of blowing snow Thursday morning with snow showers. Unless conditions change, a blizzard warning will still be in effect until noon Thursday.

AIRLINES
Please call your airline or check its Web site to rebook a flight.

PEÑA BOULEVARD
Conditions on Peña Boulevard remain hazardous, with poor visibility. Unless you are picking up someone or you are an airport employee, do not come to the airport.

Thanks for the info Christina. Stay warm up there!:)

We will be in Keystone mostly. Plan to do Breckenridge, Vail and maybe Aspen if there is time. I do worry about injury. Mostly because of the Coumadin. My card gave me complete physcial clearance to ski. He said nothing extreme though:eek: Again....the concern is Coumadin. I usually take it pretty easy anyway. Like to hang in the lodge and drink hot toddies too, lol:D Then I scratch the contact sports for the rest of the day! At that point.... it's myself I don't trust.:p

My wife is in Denver, supposed to meet me in St Louis (but seriously, folks :D ) tomorrow evening. Not gonna happen. Her plane reservation was bumped to Monday. Best we can hope for is for is for her to drive starting Friday.

She is in Denver for a funeral of her cousin...a very sad story. The deceased cousin's mom had a stroke the day after her daughter died. Her cousin died several months following her third valve replacement. I never could get her to join us here. My wife missed the funeral because of the snow, but was able to get to the hospital and stay with her aunt instead.

Okay, enough bad news. I truly wish y'all a Merry Christmas. Give your loved ones an extra hug or two for affection and warmth. Safe travels to all.

The snow has

The snow has

stopped here in Estes Park, but it is still snowing on the Front Range. Now we dig out.

Gina, I wish I was a skiier - I am envious of people who can downhill ski because I know they have such a passion for it and it does look like such fun - it is such a romantic sport. I just like to be around ski areas - they are such great places.

Tommy - sorry to hear about your wife's predicament and very sad to hear of her cousin and aunt. If hope your wife will have a safe journey to Missouri.

the total snowfall for Estes Park was 30 inches.

Glen Haven, which is not far from us, had 52 inches of snow.

As I said, it is still snowing on the Front Range/Denver area.

Merry Christmas and Gina, yes apres ski is the BEST part - have a wonderful time in our fair state. :)

I'm sorry to hear this news, Tom.
We were at St. Louis International airport yesterday afternoon, and they were telling passengers booked on United that they would be delayed until Saturday if they had flights to Denver.
Enjoy your stay in St. Louis; we're headed up next week-end for a few days of R&R at one of the downtown hotels.;)

Cutting your own Christmas tree

Cutting your own Christmas tree

A friend, Sue, lives on 50 acres atop a mountain near Boulder CO. She's gotten snowed in many times, even in May (2001) for a week.

Saw her last weekend at a cat show in Belton TX and she told me about her ordeal with this year's Christmas tree.
Her brother & sister-in-law will be spending Christmas week with them, so she wanted to decorate for the holidays. She & her husband chopped down a Ponderosa pine on their property and dragged it toward their home. Got w/in 40 feet of the back door, realized it WOULDN'T FIT!!!!!!!!!! So husband drove one of their ATVs around to haul the tree to the front, where they have double doors.
Tree wouldn't fit through the double doors. So they sliced and sliced the bottom & some branches off. FINALLY, they got it through the doors.

Predicament now: It's so big and heavy they can't get it to stand up. Sue says next year she's going to buy an 18-foot artificial tree. (Room is a vaulted living room that goes all the way up 2 stories.)
My sister's comment: She'll need a cherry-picker to decorate the top of an 18-footer.
Unless she positions it against the 2nd floor stairway.
And lets her Ocicats do the decorating. Can just see those cats at work. :D

*chuckles*

Yeah, I know.

As the song goes, "we need a little Christmas now". I'm not much in the holiday spirit ... case of the "blahs".

Tommy ... very sorry :(. Thoughts/prayers coming to you and your family.
