To all,

For those of you familiar with the earlier threads regarding my family's situation here is an update:

My father's valve replacement surgery took place on Thursday, October 26th, at the University of Minnesota. The surgery was completed by Dr. Liao. It is now Monday the 30th. I am happy to report the surgery was a success with no surprises.....I take that back...one surprise that has begun to show itself in the last 24 hours - My father's kidney function has increased. While we are hopeful this continued we are being cautiously optimistic about what it could mean for my father.

Back to the surgery:

The incision was made @ 9:10 a.m. and he was moved to CICU at approximately 2:30 that afternoon. He received a bovine valve and all went according to plan. The valve appears to be functioning properly and there have been no unfortunate surprises that have arisen. My dad is scheduled to be discharged on Tuesday or Wednesday. I will give more details if people wish please just ask.

We have been extremely pleased witht he competency, compassion, and quality of care we have received from the U. Dr. Liao has been checking regularly on my father and we have received great care at the U.

Thanks to all who have helped answer questions in the past. We very much appreciate your prayers and concerns.

Chad

So glad to hear the surgery was a success and your dad is doing good. I hope things continue to get better.

Great news, Chad- thanks for posting and our best wishes for a continued uneventful recovery.

Such wonderful news. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember your dad has several complicating factors so this is truly the best possible outcome. I hope his kidney function improvement is here to stay and that, with improved circulation, he experiences all kinds of improvements.

Wonderful news!!

Wonderful news!!

Please pass on all our best for a smooth recovery!

Good news is always great to hear. Hope he continues to improve rapidly. Thought about the kidney function, not knowing his history. One of the things my doctor was concerned with for me was that since the kidney is about the last organ to get blood supply that I might be heading for some kidney problems, mostly because I run alot and tend to dehydrate. Now that your dad is pumping better, that may be the reason it's improving and hopefully so. I personally never got to the point that is caused a problem.

Great news

That's a wonderful report. One thing this site has taught me is that for most people the surgery goes easier than expected, and it sounds like your father is another example of that!

That is good news. I remember the fears you had. He must have a strong constitution to get through it without problems. Tell him congratulations and keep on truckin.
