Hi to everyone. Have been reading since March 2005 and have said very little.
Looking at an aortic valve replacement, (biscuspid) and thoracic aneurysm repair sometime in January. Guess you can say I'm still very much in denial, feel tired but have good health and no real pain. As they say numbers don't lie.
Thanks to this forum I recently visited the Cleveland Clinic for a third opinion.
Met with Dr. Bruce Lytle and the rest is almost history. I'm also from Pittsburgh, but felt I wanted to visit someone and go somewhere , where lots of the type procedure I need are done routinely.
Because of this family I have found the courage to ask the hard questions and sought out the best individuals to take care of me. I probably would not have continued my search for help if I had not consistently read this forum.
I'm 64, work as a school counselor, first time grand pop, married 40 years, have a daughter that ia a vet-tech and a son that is an Airforce Office stationed in LA as an aerospace engineer.
Working diligently trying to get my act together.
God Bless each and everyone of you and your familys. Thank you so much for shedding the light and easing the fears and the pain. It's comforting to know how much each of you care for others. We are truly a select group.
Best wishes to all.
Sincerely,
Fred

So glad you found what you needed here, Fred. Sounds like you are all set for January with your research done and good choices made. Be sure to let us know when you have the date and we will put you on the calendar so we can continue to help you over the mountain!

Surgery Date Coming

Phyllis & Dick,

Thank you for your concern. I'll let you know as soon as I get my date.
Take care!

Hi Fred-

Glad you broke the ice and spoke up and let us know one of our dear lurkers:p

Now that you have made yourself known, how about sticking around and joining our little party?

Hi Fred! Welcome. Thanks for the lovely compliments. We are a special group!! :D

I don't know what you mean by "trying to get your act together" as it sounds like you have your act put together quite well. And you will do fine! You've made some wise decisions and some good plans. Now you just have to suffer the wait! Never an easy part of the journey!

Come back with any questions about anything! We're here 24/7.

:) Marguerite

Hi Fred! Welcome to the family.

You are going to LOVE Cleveland Clinic. Everyone warned me that it would be so cold and impersonal, and it was exactly the opposite. I never waited even 5 minutes for any request, and the staff was so nice. They were always coming in and sitting down in my room and chatting. Even my first night in ICU, they were just coming in and hanging around wanting to know if they could get anything for me. I had Dr. Cosgrove, but I hear that Lytle and Petterson are also highly rated. I think there are several members here who had Dr. Lytle. OK, the post op low salt diet isn't the best, but it passes the time!:D .

You have several months to get ready...in fact you probably are ready if you've been hanging around here for the past year. Just ask away - no question too trivial. We will be here for you before and after.

Welcome to the family Fred....

Many of us spend some time in denial...I think its part of the journey we take...

you have done very well indeed to get this far...

What a lovely note Fred. I'm glad you are feeling a sense of assurance in your decisions and I'm glad this little "family" of ours (which you are a member) has helped.

Best wishes from another 1st-timer in the grandparents department.

Welcome Fred!
I agree with the other Cleveland Clinic alumni, it is the best place in the world to go for heart issues. I found the people there warm and caring. As big as the place is, I was amazed how easy (but tiring) it was to maneuver around the Clinic. I have to admit I did hitch a ride on one of the golf carts when I was in a hurry and my sister refused to give me a piggy back ride.
My best to you! You are in the best of hands!

Thank you Fred, we do the best we can, because we know what it's like to be introduced to the fear and anxiety that comes along with being told that you need heart surgery. We hope those that learned from us and go on to have their surgeries, return and help other newbies that are just as petrified as they were before surgery.

McKees Rocks huh? Your sitting on top of a bunch of my wifes relatives! :D

Hey Fred....I know exactly where you are....The worst for me was accepting I had to have OHS and then waiting and waitin. This wonderful group helped me so much...gave me courage to voice concerns and there they were....living and breathing and cracking jokes(sometimes) What a relief to know they survived all and could help others to do the same. Think positively and think about the fact that you are being a good friend to your very important heart and are on the way to helping it help you for a long time to come( after all you have grand babies to help raise(me too!!) Bessings and peace to you..Sandy:)

Great Place To Be!

Great Place To Be!

Thanks to all of you for your kind and very reassuring comments. I'm proud to be a member of this very caring and loving family. I hope when my time comes that I may carry the torch and lessen someone elses fears and concerns, as you have mine.

God Bless and much happiness and good health to each of you and your families.

Fred
